Yeah it feels like Jaguars news stratosphere is way too quick to read into something that might have been “hinted at” in a press conference and consider their interpretation as fact

all Baalke said about Ridley was “we know where each other stands” or something like that, he didn’t say anything that seemed more affirmative than that

 

People also heard Nielsen use Travon Walker as an example saying “yeah if he’s better inside we’ll use him inside, we’ll evaluate all players and use them to their best strength”

and now Jags Twitter is convinced they ARE moving Travon inside but that’s not what he said. All he effectively said is he’s not gonna be stubborn about keeping someone where they are just because that’s what they were doing before.

 

If I’ve learned anything about the NFL, it’s to not read into whatever shit comes out of these rich fucks’ mouths. They get paid to do this shit. Best to just wait and actually see what happens than think Ridley and a fucking rich general manager did some scout’s honor agreement as if no one has ever changed their mind at the 11th hour (see: Josh McDaniels, Ben Johnson, Frank Gore, Your Mom, etc.)

Sign Allen early was a massive priority for me during the season. They did not get it done. To me that is a player you don’t need to see next years salary cap numbers to know you’re gonna move whatever fucking money around required to keep him.

Yeah the “interesting” part was about teams still being pissed at the Jags for driving up the WR market in the first place, and the suggestion that teams might try to get us back with our even better receiver lol

But yeah I feel like $22.5M AAV with 60-65% of it guaranteed is what Ridley gets if we let him walk and we definitely shouldn’t pay that.

It would be nice to get him for $19-$20M AAV and flexible, incentive based guarantees before the market opens, or at least franchise tag him so we can push his 2024 price of $22-$23M AAV back a year so we can front load both him and Allen’s deals and make room for backloading Trevor guarantees.

The former would’ve been way easier to pull off if Josh Allen was already signed. But now we have no leverage cause Ridley knows we can’t just tag them both.

Instead it feels like we’re almost pitting the two negotiations against each other and saying whichever one budges and takes less is who we keep. Which, I get doing if it’s like, your #8 most important player versus your #10 and they’re both trying to get top 5 deals… but not if it’s literally #2 and #4 trying to get paid what they’re actually worth??? lol

sign #2 early and don’t let #4 go without the tag, this is not hard at all.
