I am begging Howard to realize that neglecting the entire middle of the field is not a winning strategy

The Eagles went to the super bowl 13 months ago with a UDFA and a free agent castoff on a one-year $3m deal at linebacker, and a slot corner switching positions and sixth round pick at safety

 

I don’t say that to say he should keep doing what he did last year, but Howie doesn’t need to break the bank at linebacker to get competent play at that position. I mean, Nigel Bradham was probably their best linebacker when they won the super bowl and he wasn’t a game-changer or anything

 

I have it on good authority that you are bad if you lose the super bowl.

Yeah, Sirianni probably shouldn’t have turtled up at times and trusted his defense, who was being coached by a bad coach

 

The Eagles will absolutely address safety in free agency. It was reported just two years ago that they were close to getting a big deal done with Marcus Williams, but the Ravens ultimately ended up getting it done with him first. They made big investments over long periods of time with both Malcolm Jenkins and Rodney McLeod.

Howie values the position, but it takes two to tango and there are 31 other teams potentially in the mix to sign all of these players. With only Reed Blankenship and Sydney Brown at safety, and with Vic Fangio’s scheme greatly valuing smart, good safety play, I’m confident the Eagles will sign a veteran free agent to a mid/high-end deal.

As for linebacker? Dude is probably never going to be a big spender at the position, which I don’t think is inherently a problem. If you told me they could get a Fred Warner or Roquan Smith caliber of player in free agency, sure, please sign them to whatever they want, but there really doesn’t appear to be some slam dunk option hitting free agency. If they want to spend around $5m to take a shot on someone, cool, but they’re not going to break the bank on Patrick Queen, whose best play came next to Roquan and while coached by Mike Macdonald

 

Funny that trade will probably hinge on where Kirk signs lol

 

I love Reed and Sydney. Hopefull Sydney pans out because he was a STUD at Illinois.

Linebacker I'd like him to just bite the bullet on and take Payton or Cooper.
