Jayden Daniels is a good move for the Patriots but he’s not without concerns.

 

I respectfully disagree, especially on Edge, and in absence of having stats (where I’m never advocating doing the bad ‘compare the PFR one pager of comparative counting stats and call it a day’ thing) or accolades to back up the stance, I don’t have much to say other than that I’d personally rank them Edge >= Gore > Taylor >= Forte and that I think the HOF cutoff line for if you’re inducting 5 guys per year (not my personal HOF line if I were starting over and making my own HOF, just the objective rule that they follow) falls somewhere in the gap between Gore and Taylor

by virtue of being in the top 50+ of humans to do the thing that they’re doing, they all have incredible highlight reels — your bias makes you more familiar with Taylor’s and mine with Edge and (to a lesser extent) Gore — so idk how to compare them on that alone other than to say they were all very good RBs

 

Yep exactly what I want. Draft a QB at 3, don’t rush to play them, and sign a FA vet to start

 

I wish there was any universe in which Russ would sign even knowing there's a chance he'd lose the job to the rook but alas. Brissett is a way cooler guy at least

 

I like Tyrod as a veteran match with Daniels better

Edge’s peak was insane, he has four 1500 yard seasons and 3 of them 2000 total yards, even in Manning’s offense that’s still absurd. I didn’t say Taylor was better than Edgerrin because YOUNG Edgerrin had a filthy arsenal of running skills as well. Early career Edge was more powerful than Taylor while also being very creative and agile. and I begrudgingly admit he was a more proven pass catcher even though I think the reason is only scheme related and the Jags SHOULD have used Taylor like that.

But his decline also started pretty early and it wasn’t long before he was more of a patient power back than an exciting back with juice or wiggle. He was the typical RB life cycle, where by the time you extend him, you’re paying for 75-80% of the reason you signed him and he’s not worth a LONG extension as a result. And Peyton didn’t win a Super Bowl until they replaced James. His legacy couldve been a lot harder to touch if he was still good enough to keep for the two superbowl appearances. Or imagine if he won a ring in Arizona cause his running game carried Warner to victory.

Fred was still one of the best big play backs of all time at 30. I tallied it up once and I think he had something like 51 runs of 40 or more yards and 26 of them were 60 or more yards in his career. And he proved he was worth a third contract by having 1200 yards and FIVE runs of over 70 yards at 30 years old, despite MJD taking over all third down and goal line duties. And I think that skill itself is one you’re underrating, cause a lot of these long runs were created by intentional cutbacks, not just a straight path blocked for him to sprint downhill like most 60+ yard runs tend to be. Taylor did have a truly RARE talent in his skillset, that allowed us to use our running game in situations other teams might not. He didn’t get lucky with a few long runs like most RBS.. he was a consistent home run hitter. If a team could stop Taylor from ripping off a 20+ yard momentum swinging play for the whole game that was a big win.
