If the team offering you way less is average then yeah I’d rather take the bag & wait out a rebuild to see what happens but if the team offering you way less is amazing, or if the average team is offering almost as much as the awful team, I’ll take winning and still being pretty damn rich please lol

 

Luckily for us we don’t have to make that choice I guess

I don’t think “money” is as simple as “most money now”. Setting yourself up for a big payday later by being on a team with a QB who inflates your numbers or whatever is still considering “money” in a sense

But people won’t take THAT much less

 

That’s true. I just like, I know that I’d be the type to want to be paid because of my dedication to football, not to want to play football because of my dedication to money haha

 

That’d be ideal in a world where owners felt the same

 

If an owner asked me to take a paycut, a hometown discount or in anyway a single dollar less than what I want, I’m laughing in their billionaire face lol

 

An mlb player just got shit a few days ago because he said “yeah idk this is just my job” lol I think it’s way more common that guys just choose the highest bidder

I think it’s way more “normal” for an athlete to have that mindset than to have the Michael Jordan “I will murder your family” mindset

 

feel like that’s really sad lol. That they take it for granted like that.

if its a 33 year old player at the end of their career who already made a shitload of money? maybe they take less to go try and win with a contender?

if its a 25 year old in their prime with no family commitments? sure get your bag dude

I’ve made it very clear to my boss that I’m financially motivated and my goal is to make as much money as humanly possible no matter the company lol

 

I feel like Michael Jordan was a douche and definitely took it overboard, but to act like athletes aren’t used to a hazing culture is naive. We see fist fights and rookies having to buy veterans meals and shit in the current NFL. We see much worse, abusers keeping their jobs. Jordan was what he was, so committed that he cared more about winning (and probably for some reasons that I hope he’s brought up in therapy) than being kind or making friends. That’s his own demons to fight, he doesn’t get the last laugh, he’s wealthy and famous and beloved but still unhappy. More tragic than despicable imo.

 

Am I just more cynical for thinking they usually just take the most money no matter the situation

There was that Shaq video the other day where he talked about losing his family and that was a real bummer
