all of this just gets so confusing to be pedantic about. Can you just skip all these steps and admit that you know what skillset I’m talking about us needing, you know why X receivers are usually the WR1 even if there are exceptions, and I’m not wrong that we need a better than Kirk talent there to truly start to realize Trevor’s talent?

Oh my god Randall. The position is logged as where they are lined up at the time of the snap. Motioning to X is not a common situation.

It's not being pedantic, you made the argument and you're wrong so own it. X is not automatically WR1. They are not at all the same thing. You could've argued that you'd like a more physical receiver. You didn't. You said X is WR1 and that all those examples I gave earlier are either X's or not WR1. That is incorrect. You chose to frame the argument that way so do not put the responsibility on ME to adjust because you chose wrong. I agree, we need a physical receiver. That was never the argument though.

alright. I exaggerated and was wrong about a bourgeoning trend in the NFL. Historically your X receiver would always be your WR1 and almost all the receivers I grew up a big fan of were X receivers because it’s the hardest job to be good at. But I guess in the modern era of motion, even receivers with that skillset often lineup elsewhere.

That doesn’t change me wanting that skillset because we don’t have it and Ridley and Kirk are both pretty shitty X receivers. That also doesn’t change the fact that the majority of actually dominant receivers ARE known for that X skillset even if there’s more exceptions now than ever. Much like how most teams with actually good runnin games need a lead runner who can handle short yardage and gets at least 65-70% of the carries, even in an era where splitting backs is more common -There’s a reason why it’s TYPICALLY that way even if you can poke holes in he argument
