Well sure, he very clearly had plenty left in the tank considering he broke the all time TD record a year later, but it's not shocking his market was terrible. He was an expensive diva receiver with effort and attitude issues. It was only going to work for the Patriots and even then it was a when, not an if. He only lasted 3 years.

well, every good receiver we ever had except Allen Robinson did a lot of cocaine (which is definitely a rampant drug in Jacksonville lol). Jimmy Smith and Justin Blackmon the biggest examples here

also Tom Coughlin and Urban Meyer were racists / disrespectful control freaks and the front office sided with them instead of the players for way too long

Tbh the more I think about it the more Jimmy Smith deserves the hall of fame.

He missed almost his entire rookie contract on the Cowboys with two major injuries (one of them including organ failure due to sepsis and him almost dying)

He also retired at LEAST 2 years before he was washed up because he got into drug trouble for a second time and went to jail at age 35 (believe me, he was still fast af and burning guys downfield at that age)

and yet, despite missing like 5 seasons compared to other great WR who played as long as he did… he’s still a top 25 receiver of all time. Imagine if he got drafted healthy by the Jaguars originally, or if he stayed off the drugs and retired naturally when he finally lost a step. He’d be top 10.

As a matter of fact, the only reason he wasn’t the second WR of all time to ever have 10 straight 1000 yard seasons (Rice was first of course), is because of his first cocaine suspension. He missed 4 games… and had over 800 yards in the other 12. Aside from that year, he had 1000 yards every other season from 1996-2005. Dude was wildly consistent.
