I would laugh uncontrollably if the Panthers, after reportedly turning down not one but TWO firsts from the Rams for Burns, just let him walk in free agency

 

The difference between Allen and Burns, too, is that Allen actually did have his best season and prove himself right when his contract year happened. Josh was our best player easily. Burns hasn’t ever had a 17.5 sack, 77 pressure season let alone in a contract year. So it should be even less of a question for us that Allen, given both his talent and his attitude/professionalism, is worth that $30M AAV under the new salary cap. He’s improved every year, he leads and pushes his teammates, he’s a philanthropist for the local community of underprivileged kids, he’s about family and humility & is never making headlines for saying shit or getting in trouble, he never complained even when the Jags were legitimately an awful franchise to play for… Guy even drops back into coverage and defends passes, come on Baalke

I don’t really care how many sacks Allen has compared to Burns and I care even less about pressures. I’m not arguing about who is better than who. They’re both great players and both teams should have extended both of them by now. If anything, the Panthers’ situation looks worse because, while Allen had the better season, they could have traded Burns away two years ago for two firsts when they are clearly rebuilding. If the Panthers end up tagging and trading Burns for just a first and some change, that is laughable stuff
