i cant escape at a concert because im thinking about how much it cost to simply be there lol

 

Some outstanding guitarists throughout history from Jimi Hendrix to Steve Vai, basically write a lot of jam band music, so there’s a lot of ways to skin that cat, doesn’t always have to be noodly dad rock. (And vice versa, I’ve always thought Dinosaur Jr and Wilco were noodly dad rock and so the same kinda vibe exists in indie that’s more focused on songwriting too lol). After being open minded and seeing some of Baltimores jam band scene (from bluegrass to jazz to whatever else stylistically) i feel like people draw weird lines in the sand about it that aren’t universally true. When it’s so much easier to just say you don’t care much for instrumental music without a focus on structure or lyrics - because “jam band music” isn’t actually one homogenous sound.

 

Maybe dumb idea but have you tried having more money

But yes they are expensive, I just don't drink and can use all that money on things like concerts instead cuz drinking and similar activities add up like crazy

When I say jam bands I am specifically talking about umphrey’s mcgee, phish, moe and bands in that vein. I don’t need a history lesson on music to say I don’t enjoy that.

why phish sucks

I believe you. I never gave the dead a true chance because of my jam band friends that talk about all those bands the same way.

I don’t like Phish but I do like Umphries.

I don’t really want records / CDs of that music but they were a lot of fun live. I just don’t see why music has to follow capitalism-inspired trends of short term gratification and expedience to be enjoyed for what it is. Music can have different purposes and they can be enjoyed in different ways

my kind of jam band, is a jazz & blues style one & I find it kinda weird to act like the whole thing is dads in cargo shorts. The concept of a jam band has been around long before the pop music formula

I mean it’s a joke because that’s what folks actually think when they say jam bands and I just find that (common) opinion to be kinda pretentious

to be fair, I also thought it was pretentious when Gay Baseball was like “don’t call us emo” dude we’re not in high school and no one thinks I mean Hawthorne heights calm down
