They were dumb and I'm on record as saying Hester should get in too. I'm far more interested in the best of a position getting in over like the 40th best WR lol

Yeah I’m biased and I’d still put Hester in before Fred. No one before or since has made kick returns look planned and intentional and not flukey the way Hester did. If I was a coach at the time I would quite literally command my punter to never punt the ball inbounds to him.

The Bears lost the Super Bowl against the Colts cause Manning and that defense were ON one that year… but how legendary is it that the first play of the game was a kickoff TD by Hester. If they had anything better than Rex Grossman at QB that could’ve been the play that established momentum and gave the Bears playcalling leverage for the rest of the game.

Wild that the 2 fastest opening scores in SB history were both against Peyton

Devin Hester is the only player Madden has ever given a 100 stat and not a 99 stat to lol. Im like 99% positive in Madden 2008 Devin Hester had 100 speed. That’s a hall of famer right there lmao

My bad, damn, just the defense then.

why on earth was he SO bad in the playoffs lol. A lot of that is the 2000s patriots, Steelers and ravens being 3 of the best playoff defenses of all time but… god you’d hope with his regular season legacy he’d get the best of them ONCE or TWICE and not always get fucking owned lol

using madden to justify if someone is or isn't a hall of famer? discredited, your opinions are now all invalid.

He's had a couple good playoff games scattered in but yeah it seems like he's mostly played worse than normal every time he's entered the playoffs

My opinion of Peyton Manning is so different from yours because the Jaguars… let’s just say we didn’t need to worry that much about the playoffs lmao, because we always lost stupidly to division rivals in the games that would’ve put us in the playoffs if we won lol. In my view, the Colts were the impossible wall we had to climb to GET to the playoffs. We only saw regular season Peyton lol. I’ve seen him throw for 350+ yards and 3+ touchdowns against us live, several times in my life. Even when we were actually good the Colts were just better and would often sweep us.

Peyton is also ultimately the reason the league has to actually FEAR quarterbacks and organize their entire defense around stopping quarterbacks. Kurt Warner did it first in 1998-2001, but Peyton took that style of offense a step further and proved that no matter what play you call, a well studied QB can just change the play and create a big mismatch anyway.

Brady, being the elite competitor he is, modeled his game after that later on when he saw how successful Manning was with it, and many would say he did it better (I just think he was more determined and was smarter and calmer under pressure). but when Manning was starting to do this in 2003 and 2004, and produced the first full season QB rating above 113 (121.1) in his record setting 2004, Warner was looking washed up in NY and Brady was still relying on his defense to keep games low scoring cause he didn’t have a threatening downfield arm yet. It wasn’t until Manning’s regular season performances in the 2000s that the league realized “oh shit, that’s not a fluke, that’s sustainable and we are gonna have to change the way we look at defense”

frustrates me, honestly, that Peyton wasn’t a winner in big situations. Cause historically he was the guy to do the “unstoppable spread offense” thing first, and that precedent he set is the reason why the NFL is how it is now, the reason why Brees and Brady and Mahomes etc also started playing that style of offense and winning superbowls with it.

I'm gonna reword the take that got me in trouble in the hopes that it's more palatable this way. Eli Manning rates higher on the dog scale than Peyton.
