Really it's because his S/T performances have been more than enough to swing games in massive ways that led to multiple Super Bowls for a dynasty. His S/T play has been as good and more impactful than Devin Hester's who is in the hall, just in a much less flashy manner. He probably won't get in but I think he deserves it

 

he was mostly a gunner right? or did he actually handle returns too?

I'm struggling to actually recall any specific plays

 

Most 3x Super Bowl Champion, 5X All-Pros, 10X Pro Bowlers & Captains of a dynasty end up in the hall-of-fame.

 

Not to mention that cooling your house down from 85 back to 78 on a regular basis is gonna be quite inefficient

if we're just talking about an all time vibes guy then there's a contributor wing for that

 

I don’t have any reason to say Matthew Slater isn’t a HOFer with Devin Hester getting in so easily

Slater just did his cool stuff without the ball in his hands

I'm not saying he shouldn't be in the HOF, I know what Belichick has said about him, I know he's very well-respected

I'm just asking for the pro-HOF arguments

 

Mostly a gunner but he did return as well for a while and in 2011 played offense defense and S/T

He created a shit ton of pins for the Patriots through gunning that otherwise would've been standard positioning and due to him became easy scores for the Pats. Obviously football is a team sport so everyone matters in a SB run but Slater's part of getting the Pats to those late Brady SBs is massive (28-3 very likely doesn't happen without Slater forcing Kyle into uncomfortable positions). And @whitenblue88 nailed it above too, if Hester's in Slater has a better argument than he would otherwise

But yes his eye test was VERY strong alongside his accolades

 

Being the best player at his position for 10+ years is a pretty solid resume whether you appreciate the position or not lol

 

This is the take that will have me going full Randall lol

 

personally I do not think Matthew Slater, he of like 200 career tackles, is even close to Devin Hester, greatest return man of all time

 

I'm not gonna argue hard against it, I just don't get it at all

 

It's okay the people who watch football get it
