Aldi has you unlock carts using a quarter. You then get the quarter back when you return it. Then they don’t have to get carts from the parking lot.

They also don’t give you bags for free. But here in Pittsburgh they just banned plastic bags anyway, so really Aldi was just ahead of the game.

Yeah, it a weird little legacy thing...I'd ignore it since I always have my own bags anyway and usually shop out of them, but, tough to do with a 2yr old.

My Colts pre-FA Thoughts, will probably do defense next weekend or something

Offense:

QB:
Starter (1): Anthony Richardson
Backup (1): Sam Ehlinger
Pending FAs: Gardner Minshew

Getting Minshew back would be great. Assuming that doesn't happen, ideally the backups in the room would run an offense more similar to what Richardson does/will do, especially if he needs to miss OTA/training camp reps as part of his rehab. My best guess is that they replace Ehlinger with a more mobile option in either this draft class or next class as well.

Potential FA fits (in order of preference): Marcus Mariota, Josh Dobbs, Tyler Huntley
Bargain bin options: Mitch Trubisky, Easton Stick

RB:
Starter (1): Jonathan Taylor
Backups (2): Evan Hull, Tyler Goodson
Pending FAs: Zack Moss, Trey Sermon

Similarly assuming Zack Moss is gone, but would be surprised if Sermon isn't retained as a RFA. I'd imagine they'll add another body for competition either in the mid-to-low tier of FA or during the draft given Taylor's injury history. Sermon is kinda Zack Moss lite, and I think they really like Hull in the pass catching back role, but I'll hope for someone in the mid-tier of FA and expect a camp body.

Potential FA fits (in order of preference): AJ Dillon, Antonio Gibson
Bargain bin options: Matt Breida, Jerick McKinnon, Ty Johnson, Boston Scott

WR:
Starter (1.5): Alec Pierce (if there isn't a better option), Josh Downs
Backups (3): Ashton Dulin, DJ Montgomery, Juwann Winfree
Pending FAs: Michael Pittman Jr, Isaiah McKenzie

Priority #1 is obviously re-signing Pittman. Hopefully Irsay being a lot less involved than previous off-seasons means that this is a smoother negotiation, and not that Ballard digs his heels in and has no one to force him to acquiesce. Dulin being back is huge, not only because IND had a bare cupboard at the X and Z without him, but because his presence on the roster means that IND doesn't have to roster a gunner who doesn't otherwise contribute on game day. I have this group as having 2-3 needs -- 1) a true difference maker to play opposite Pittman and give Richardson a top-tier WR room, 2) a boundary WR who won't play but could if he had to (probably best gotten on day 3 of the draft) and 3) a returner/speedster (which could be filled at RB or CB too).

If they do anything here in FA, I expect it to be small.

True difference maker options: none, this FA class is gonna suck once franchise tags happen, but leaving this open to edit as teams start cutting players who might fit
Bargain bin options (boundary): Donovan Peoples-Jones, Equanimeous St Brown, Miles Boykin, Josh Reynolds

This seems like a place where they'll either make a boring blocking TE signing and call it a day or they'll make a splash for someone to be TE1. I think if they like someone in FA or a Brock Bowers type falls to them, Alie-Cox is gone (he has a cap hit of almost $6M), if they decide a true pass-catcher (ie. Gesicki) is an upgrade over Granson, they wouldn't hesitate to make that swap, and otherwise, we'll see this room again next year and will hope for a healthy Woods season or a Mallory breakout.

Potential FA fits: Noah Fant, Gerald Everett, Mike Gesicki

OT:
Starter (2): Bernhard Raimann, Braden Smith
Backup (2): Blake Freeland, Jake Witt

I'd guess, with the exception of camp bodies, no moves are made here. I could maybe see something for a swing tackle.

Lots of money tied up here, maybe a draft move makes sense to replace 2025 FA Fries, but all 3 of them are pretty entrenched for next year. I'd like to see Sills get replaced for non-football reasons, and generally wouldn't be upset with upgrading on the other two backups either.

Bargain bin options: Austin Schlottmann, Sua Opeta, Max Scharping

Prediction: Minshew and Moss leave, they sign a backup QB we've all heard of (Mariota?) and add a couple of bodies to shore up depth, but most of the FA work happens on defense

Defense:

DE:
Starters (2): Kwity Paye, Samson Ebukam
Backups (3): Dayo Odeyingbo, Isaiah Land, Titus Leo
Pending FAs: Tyquan Lewis, Jake Martin, Genard Avery

The core is intact for next season, and they'll have to decide whether or not Kwity and Dayo are worth an extension. Personally, I think they should pick up the 5th year option on Kwity, and don't think they do more than add depth bodies to the room, however, they moved Rock Ya-Sin two years ago when he was entering his contract year, and it wouldn't be the most shocking thing to see them do something like that again.

Honestly, the players they already have as pending FAs (specifcally Lewis and Avery) profile just as well if not better than any of these pending FAs.

Potential FA fits: Brian Burns, Marcus Davenport, Casey Toohill
Bargain bin options: James Smith-Williams, Mario Edwards Jr, Chris Wormley

DT:
Starters (1): DeForest Buckner

The run defense was atrocious when Stewart was out for suspension; re-signing Stewart or finding a replacement is probably priority #2 behind re-signing Pittman, and finding a backup and future option is a must as well.

Bargain bin options: Taven Bryan, Sebastian Joseph-Day

LB:
Starters (2): Zaire Franklin, EJ Speed

EJ Speed is in the category of player who is a serviceable starter, but can be upgraded upon. IND has been hesitant to invest heavily in LB, lets their drafted players go, and the one superstar who they paid handsomely flamed out spectacularly. With that said, they need a better LB in coverage, and it's a delicate balance between ensuring that Franklin is the highest paid LB in the room and improving this room solidly.

Potential FA fits: Oren Burks, Willie Gay, Bobby Wagner
Bargain bin options: Dylan Cole, Devin Bush

CB:
Starters (1): JuJu Brents
Backups (5): Jaylon Jones, Dallo Flowers, Darrell Baker Jr, Ameer Speed, Chris Lammons

I think I'm in the minority of Colts fans in saying that, if the Colts were to let one of their big 4 FAs go, it should be Moore, mainly because I'm intrigued by what this defense could look like utilizing the nickel to bring other guys onto the field (ie. Brents as a big nickel is intriguing if they load up the perimeter enough instead to be able to afford doing that, 3 safety looks that bring Nick Cross onto the field more are interesting, etc).

Regardless, I think this is a position to go big (early draft pick, big ticket FA) or stay put -- Jones/Flowers/Baker is a solid group off the bench and a pretty uninspiring CB2 competition. They've had a history of signing formerly elite roster cuts, so I'm keeping an eye out for who hits the wire prior to FA. They also have a seemingly strict rule of signing guys at or above 6'1" to play the corner CB positions, which limits the FA pool quite a bit

Potential FA fits: Ahkello Witherspoon, CJ Henderson, Fabian Moreau, Sean Murphy-Bunting, Javelin Guidry (slot)

I'd really like to see Blackmon back to make it so that only one position is being filled externally. Free safety was such a mess that they pulled converted LB Ronnie Harrison out of that role and into the FS role because no one on the roster could hold that down. Fortunately, this safety class is loaded, and I feel strongly that they need to make their biggest splash here.
