Mahomes has 2 already and didn’t need to beat Rex Grossman or have prime Von Miller carry him there. If Mahomes retired today I’d have him above Manning.

 

It depends on how well planned out it is. I’m not sure if anything ever goes perfectly, but a well thought out and planned implementation can drastically reduce errors and downtime

Peyton Manning has played in 10 bonus playoff games than Mahomes and has +1 TDs and +18 Ints

 

The regular season and longevity still matter. Peyton was disappointing in too many playoff games and it’s why I still have him behind Montana but he was excellent day in and day out and totally changed qb play. He does still have arguably the best statistical season of any qb with consistency stats second only to Brady.
Mahomes has somehow made this an argument in just 7 years though which is nuts. If he gets this sb I’ll give it to him otherwise if he gets another sb, mvp, or plays at a high level for the next 7 or 8 years he gets the nod over Manning easy. There’s a good chance he’ll do all three of those things too lol

Yeah idk without thinking super hard Mahomes is definitely top 3 at worst, Brady & I guess Montana are his competition but Montana’s career was pre free agency

 

Mahomes is beating Manning in every normalized stat in the regular season too. The only argument manning has is a longevity/volume stat

 

Mannings 2008 mvp season he had barely 4K yards and was 27:12 TD:INT

not REALLY though, lot of guys still can’t consistently execute in those ideal situations. Da’Ron Bland may not be good at mirroring guys but he’s certainly better than most at reading the quarterback

 

You can’t just look at stats in todays game. Manning only got to play a few healthy prime years in today’s nfl where you can’t hit the receivers or the qb and in one of them he broke every record. He had the best (regular) season at least 5 times. Mahomes has been awesome obviously and he’s only had 7 years but he he can’t say that just yet.

To be fair he also hasn’t had to get through nearly as good of defenses to get there. Did a great job vs the Ravens this year but that’s not quite the 2000-2010 Patriots and Steelers (and Ravens for that matter)

Manning gets a lot of flak but there is a good reason he didn’t play as well in the playoffs haha, AFC playoff defenses were ridiculous in that time frame

 

But yeah I do concede the rules & general offensive trends were different in the early to mid 2000s

HOWEVER

Brees did throw for 5k yards and 34 touchdowns in 2008 and didn’t get MVP votes so again, wtf was going on in 2008

 

My argument does fall apart when you look at post season though. When it really counts against the best teams Mahomes has been soooo much better. And Mahomes has got enough of a sample size you can’t really argue about it much.

Yeah that’s a crazy Brees stat lol the craziest qb stat is Marino throwing for a modern day mvp season in like 1984 when you could basically kill the qb every time they dropped back

It definitely is. Players hit that lucky peak all the time and don't ever reach it again because everything went right for them that one year. Kayvon had like 13 sacks and was a horribly inefficient pass rusher so unless that improves I wouldn't bet on him consistently getting double digits. Vic Beasley hit 16 sacks and was out of the year in four years

 

I’d be more interested in a “rules were different” argument if they didn’t change the the rules specifically for Peyton Manning lol
