Bucs are definitely gonna give Baker an extension, right? Rather than plunge into the murky depths of the FA QB pool?

 

I would think so, especially with that hire since Coen knows Baker from his short time in LA.

And if I were him, I would take whatever deal they're willing to give him because I don't think he'd be guaranteed the starting job anywhere else. Unless some team is giving him a crazy deal to be the backup to a rookie.

I’m not suggesting they shouldn’t re-sign Baker. I think they should. Vibes matter! Seems like a bad culture move to let him walk after what players said about playing with him vs playing with Brady. He’s well-liked in the locker room, helped them win their division, and won a playoff game against a floundering Eagles team that was in the super bow a year ago.

Could they replace him with Jacoby Brissett and get similar play? Possibly. Could they let him walk in favor of signing Kirk Cousins? It’d be an upgrade for sure, but could they afford Cousins? They could look into trading for Justin Fields, but they’re taking on a risk even if Fields has more upside than Baker.

The Bucs are in a tough spot. I think they should just bring back Baker and consider taking a shot on a rookie just to see what happens.

 

There's really no solution out there that is significantly better than Baker, so I would bring him back if I was them. If like...Lamar was available, hell yeah go get him. But subbing out Baker for Jacoby to save a few bucks is a nightmare scenario for the vibes.

 

Would not be surprised if Baker reverts back into pumpkin status without Dave Canales and especially if Mike Evans leaves, then they begin a rebuild in 2025
