the only relient k show I went to, I didn't stay for their whole set. not totally my thing. William Beckett opened, Hellogoodbye was support. only time I saw either of them, too

I just mean some of their lyrics & music ideas are corny af and should not have made the final cut even if they are a goofy youthful band lol. Like, Two Lefts and Anatomy could be trimmed and combined into an amazing pop-punk album but instead they read like two albums with a lot of lame filler songs that I don’t wanna finish listening to. It’s kinda like a high fructose corn syrup dessert or a really fatty fried food that tastes addictiveky good at first but then makes you queasy and you don’t wanna finish it lol

And also Matt Thiessen has a lot of like, that sanctimonious Christian prejudice that he tries to reframe as altruistic, but that’s to be expected

 

I’m doing a 2004 re-listen and MMHMM is next up on my list and am excited about that

fully expect to call it a top 5 album of the year

 

Nah 2004 was a good ass year for that kind of music. From Under The Cork Tree by FOB > anything Relient K ever did

cmon, excellent ass pop punk album, zero filler on it, detailed musically and not too basic but also catchy and immediate etc

 

Who I Am Hates Who I've Been and Be My Escape are two songs

 

Always feel like I was the only person to never get into FOB

 

I don’t like the former at all, the latter was one of my favorite songs for a little while when I was 14 though

 

I think on Chorus you can shorten “2004 re-listen” to “listen”

 

FUTCT is 2005

 

The first line is “I watched the proverbial sunrise, rising up over the Pacific”

what is a “proverbial” sunrise that’s some try hard word choice

the sun doesn’t rise over the Pacific

etc lol 60% of their lyrics are unnecessary

American Idiot, Three Cheers, Futures, Chuck, Only Chasing Safety, In Love and Death, Catalyst, etc, etc

 

this is the most pop-punk (derogatory) anyone has ever pop-punked

 

2004-2007 were the GOAT release years

after 2008 is when i stopped really caring about that pop punk scene
