That's what the people behind the analytics are doing. I don't care if people with fantasy football in their bio misuse them.

we're in a real conundrum here. because Arthur will lean on the lesser talented back instead of the one they invested heavily in but in this case that's the same person so what do they do!?

misuse of analytics happens by “professionals” a lot more than you’d think. And again this is true in other, more academic realms (like, neuroscience and medicinal science) than football analysis…

so OF COURSE it happens a lot in football where any hack can just be charismatic and even if the things they’re saying about the tape / stats are wrong, they can go viral among those who don’t know any better for SOUNDING like they know what they’re doing

This shit happens in actual, important research all the time because scientists have egos and just want to prove a point, so they get reckless about methodology to make it seem like they can draw firmer conclusions than their research actually indicates

    Also not always true

remember when Sashi Brown was GM of the Browns and they made draft decisions entirely off analytics and went 1-31 in two seasons

To be clear I’m not saying “math and science = bad”. It is vital.

what I’m saying is “bad math and bad science = a lot more prevalent than people realize”

analytics are great, but they need to meet the 'eye test' and be constantly evaluated

Sure would be cool if the Patriots could announce an offensive coordinator

you'll never guess what team Sashi Brown is currently president of.

It's also much less prevalent than you seem to think considering your constant pushback against analytics.

Very different role from GM though, he’s not making decisions about talent, perhaps his analytics acumen fits better in other contexts.

I mostly give that pushback when

    1) it’s Twitter amateurs being overconfident about stats (or film) they don’t even fully understand, and those get reposted in here a lot

    2) when multiple sources disagree on a number and it becomes about picking whichever source/number confirms your bias, rather than anyone acknowledging that maybe a statistic that can’t be at least approximately replicated by other sources isn’t reliable in general

Either way, one person not doing well 7 years ago isn't enough to move the needle for me vs. all the teams that are doing it right
