I'm not sure why there was any defense of Arthur Smith personally choosing Mariota and then personally choosing to run with Ridder this year, and I'm not sure why anyone is defending the fact that none of the Falcons 3 top 10 pick offensive players are actually treated like lead contributors. (Pitts' injuries are sort of an excuse but what about when he was healthy and getting like 3 catches for 18 yards?)

Sure Arthur Smith was a good OC in Tennessee... he had an elite OL and the top RB in the league. He gave 400 carries for 2000 yards for Derrick Henry and it made the rest of his offense hum (which he refused to try to do with Bijan). But Ryan Tannehill was never ACTUALLY good, never once played well from behind IIRC... and AJ Brown was heavily underused to the point the Titans actually undervalued him in a trade!

Arthur knew how to use the running game to set up easy passes but 1) he did NOT replicate that at all in Atlanta 2) nothing about his tenure in Tennessee tells you hed be good at throwing the ball when running isn't working. He's basically Greg Roman.

I get that teams all have trouble getting EVERYBODY involved EVERY game, but they still EASILY use their WR1 and RB1 more than Arthur did in Atlanta. Dink brought up the Eagles as an example but AJ Brown had 1500 yards & Swift had 1000, over the course of the season those trends should balance out.

All of that said, the one point I do agree with is that beggars can't be choosers and he might be the Steelers' best option considering they DO have a rushing attack and they DO need to hide a bad QB, so for their sake I'd hope he can go back to what he did in Tennessee.

At least in the Steelers case, Jaylen Warren actually is also really good and Najee isn't a Bijan level talent, so doing a committee actaully makes sense there

Made me sad seeing the Lions draft Gibbs high but then TREATING him like he was drafted high even with a companion RB, and the Falcons drafting Bijan high but treating him like he was a free toy in their happy meal

Hmm Dink thinks Smith and Shanny are both just good OC but not head coaches but Shanny got the 9ers back to the Super Bowl and Smith got his ass canned. Makes you think.

Brock isn’t overrated. I’d even say he’s underrated. He just wins.

no takes about Brock are spicy anymore

he is what he is, a QB who keeps his composure and makes pretty smart decisions despite really lacking arm talent and mobility

of course he wouldn't be nearly as good on a team with a less stacked roster - but people don't even expect that so I don't know why it's paraded around like a hot take. It's still a feel good story that he was picked 249th overall but ISN'T holding his team back from a superbowl when most QBs drafted after the first round WOULD hold their team back.

Brock is a fine QB. He’s not an MVP-caliber QB. I don’t know why anyone posting such comments warrants people popping into these threads declaring people “Purdy haters.”

Yeah this is a good summary, and I'd also say that he does a better job than others would in this position. Obviously other mid-to-high-level starters would do well in Kyle's offense but Purdy does much better than lower end starters or below would and I don't think he can be treated as "Kyle Shanahan did not address the QB position" anymore in any way, he saw something that's real in Purdy and just because that doesn't make him in the top 5 QBs doesn't mean he's not a quality player
