I feel like there's an interesting thing where people who like the Souls games go a totally different direction based on what style of Souls game they like more between like DS1 Bloodborne and DS3/Elden Ring and certain games fit certain molds

Like Lords of the Fallen I feel appeals to people who love DS1

And Lies of P appeals to people who love DS3 or Sekiro for example

And it doesn't necessarily mean that you won't like it if you DON'T take that path but it means you have a higher chance of enjoying it if it's on that same path

From what I'm reading about Mortal Shell it apparently is in line with the DS1 or even DS2 path

the new LotF game i'd say is more if you like DS2.

Lies of P was probably my fav soulslike of 2023 and given I love DS3, that sort of tracks

Yeah it was my favorite as well, and DS3 is my #1 Soulsborne if we don't count Sekiro

Lies of P was really good IMO

I finished Steelrising too and while that game wasnt perfect and was kinda easy, I did enjoy it

Yeah I definitely think easy action games can be as much of a blast as difficult ones sometimes

See: Final Fantasy 16 imo, easy as shit but I had a fun time pressing the buttons

I personally count Sekiro, so that's my #1. DS3 is a close second, with DS1 nearly tied.

I get so overwhelmed so quickly playing new games nowadays. There is just so much to do that it almost intimidates me.

I did get into the Assassin Creed’s last year (Origins/Odyssey/Valhalla) and really enjoyed my time with them.

If you've never had a PS4 before, then I highly, highly, highly suggest just going to Metacritic and picking like the top 20 rated games and playing them. Uncharted, RDR2, the Horizon games, Witcher...there's easily 500+ hours of gaming you can do for like, $100 at most. They're all in the $10-20 range now, if not cheaper.

When I got my PS4 I hadnt played all those and man was I blown away at how much good stuff there was and how cheap the prices were during sales compared to every Nintendo game always being $60 even 10yrs after it goes on sale.

No need to cancel him, the underwhelming gameplay will be enough.

Other advice is don't listen to people who say a game sucks cuz you never know how it's gonna resonate with you

In most years, the answer would be yes...but now I always have to wait for my wife to get around to giving me her W2's

I just went down the same rabbit hole myself. I played Valhalla and then decided to try the previous two. I put sooo much time into Odyssey. It was extremely my shit. Trying to get through Mirage now and it's a slog.

I have RDR2 and every time I finish the prologue I immediately am like “fuck do I change my clothes? Where do I go? Which mission should I do? I need money?” and then regret not finishing

I really know the game is unbelievable and I’d enjoy it so so much, just gotta do it

Yeah, especially anything post-Gamergate/Trump's election...they were ripping Horizon Forbidden West and Last of Us 2 because there's basic diversity in them.

I also, for the life of me, cannot enjoy Metal Gear Solid even though I know its an amazing game. Was just too damn hard for me when I like more casual stealth/shootem style games (think Far Cry, etc)

My god I loved Odyssey so much! I put so much time into it and prob rank it the highest out of all of them. Origins is also great, loved ancient Egypt so much

Also had the same experience with Mirage. Unfortunately I got into the huge open world games so the smaller scale stealth wasn’t what got me in like others. So mirage is kinda meh for me. And the setting doesn’t really feel as good as the last few.

I had completely forgotten to list the Horizon series but yeah it's great

I still have never played Metal Gear Solid, I think when the remakes/remasters/whatever come out I'ma do a MGS stream

Only Assassin's Creed games I have played are Valhalla (good) and Black Flag (I just rode around on a boat all day and sunk ships so 10/10)

Yeah, took me a while to actually play the Assasins games, but I liked Origins a lot. Especially now that I have a kid, a game where I can just grind out 2hrs of missions and not neccesarily go through major storyline stuff is kinda nice during naps/before I go to bed.

As soon as I saw there wasn't even a combat skill tree in Mirage I knew I was in for a long one. Hoping the rumors of them remaking Black Flag + the Europe Witch Trials one + the Samurai era one are all true because then it should be a good few years of AC games coming.

Never been a big fan of the Assassin's Creed games overall. I did like Origins and Odyssey, but not so much the rest of the titles. and always hated whenever the abstergo bits crop up. fuck that shit.

Yeah that part always feels lame

Wasn't there a movie that was nearly exclusively those bits? I have no idea because I'd never watch a movie of that

Yeah, as soon as you wake up in the Animus I'm like 80% less interested in the game.
