Yeah now y'all aren't in a great position to offer enough for someone else and if you end up in a tie the FA can just be like "well I'd rather be with Stroud/Demeco for the same pay or more" cuz the Texans have cap space out the ass and can beat y'all on the actual WR1s AND are a more appealing situation

Might get to see it happen

If the Jags resign Ridley do they owe a 2nd for this year?

Yes but not if they tag him and re-sign him post-draft

And @CarpetElf yes I agree Doug is worse at talent evaluation

but my issue with Baalke is how much money he threw at declining talent

Scherff, Fatukasi were big signings and both were busts. Why we signed both Fatukasi and Hamilton is beyond me as well, you don’t need to spend over $20M on two nose tackles.

Darious Williams, Foye and Rayshawn were good signings talent wise but age wise we didn’t draft secondary or a will LB high enough to replace them now that we’re getting to that point, so they were shortsighted acquisitions given the context that our defense failed to take the next step this year. It actually makes sense Mike Caldwell was our first scapegoat cause he made Baalke eat crow on that.

Kirk signing was fine but being in such cap hell already that we restructured him a year later made it NOT fine

Cam Robinson signed to a bigger deal than I thought he was worth. Calvin Ridley seemed like a nice bargain but he, like Cam, played just well enough to earn an extension but not enough to think he’s gonna be reliable in important games.

it’s just a LOT of “they’re ALMOST talented enough to be worth it” suddenly becoming “nope, they’re not talented enough to be worth it” right when their cap hits are highest and right when we need to extend our two most important rookie contract players.

i think they just outright re-sign him. that seems to be what the insiders and beat writers have been thinking all season too.

Tbf very few people knew Scherff would go the direction he did and also Ridley was extremely low risk

I mean individually most these moves aren’t terrible but collectively the cap situation he got a 9-8, playoff missing team into with a rookie deal, first overall QB who is soon to be resigned, IS terrible

Scherff has still been out best lineman. Fatukasi and Davon shouldn't be playing nose for us either way so I'm blaming Caldwell for that too.

Darious has been stellar. Foye is elite and we drafted two linebackers as well but also he's 28. That's not old at all for a linebacker. Rayshawn was Urban's guy.

Ridley was a great trade that you make every single time.

Spending that much money to misplace players seems pretty fuckin stupid though especially considering Baalke picked the guy who picked the guy to do those things

I’m not saying Foye’s too old but I am saying we can’t really afford to keep him long term

Fatukasi and Davon are 100% nose tackles. They do not have 3-4 5-tech DE / 4-3 3-tech DT skillsets. Hamilton is solid but injuries derailed him this year. Fatukasi is just Badukasi

We absolutely can. If anything we can't afford NOT to.

They're 4-3 nose tackles though, not 3-4. They aren't big enough nor strong enough to eat up blockers on their own.

Also Scherff being our best lineman is BAD. He made a lot of ugly mistakes this year and is clearly a shell of his former self. He is a far cry from the All Pro dude we thought we were getting and his injury history was a red flag that his decline was imminent.

Baalke completely failed to build an O-Line and I am 10000% holding him accountable for that.
