No, but 3 years of Cam at a lower cap number and spending that 2nd rounder on something else the team needs might be

 

I mean honestly why not both? So many offensive linemen take time to gel and play at the level they're expected to upon drafting, why not trade a 5th or 6th for Cam (or do a pick swap) and draft an OT in the high 2nd and let Cam be a reinforcement to help the guy develop and then let him walk?

If you don't have anything else to spend the money on and your tackles suck it's not a bad idea

 

Imagine being asked “Would you rather have Cam Robinson at 29 in a contract year or Landon Dickerson?”

 

Shit draft the right tackle with that 2nd. Now you have two tackles without giving up any of your original first 3 draft picks and still having the ammo to move up if you want.

 

Why would Cam’s agent lobby to get his client paid less on his next extension? Teams are desperate for OL!

 

the cherry on top of all of this is Washington's current LT is better than Cam.

 

I don't know who anyone's LTs are I'm just speaking hypothetically from the standpoint of team x who has bad OTs

 

An extension naturally spreads out cap hits in a way that the final year of a contract does not. For him it’s getting paid more + getting job security but for the team it costs less this year

 

If that’s true (it’s not) why are you defending Cam and acting like he’s good haha

 

That doesn’t mean he and his agent need to take the deal. Rumors suggested that Howie Roseman backloaded the shit out of a three-year deal to CJGJ. He and his agent turned it down because it wouldn’t have paid him much in the first two years

What team would trade for Cam, then simultaneously tell him “Happy to to have ya! Now we’re gonna pay you less money on your extension than your previous one. Enjoy your stay!”

 

It’s pretty standard to extend a guy to lower the right now cap hit though and players do have incentive to say yes cause it’s guaranteed money down the line

the way caps are structured, the last year of a guy’s deal always exceeds the AAV he’s actually worth on the market.
