Yep, I agree. I know Allen narrowly missed Shakir on that 2nd down play and the 3rd down play didn’t go as planned, but for a coach that came out at halftime saying his message to the locker room was “Go for it,” he sure didn’t go for it!

You’re going to get funky stuff regardless of how the rule is written (I assume the end zone is different than every other spot on the field so that you can’t get yourself a new set of downs by intentionally fumbling out of the end zone?). A touchback, retained possession, and loss of down seems sufficiently punitive to avoid that without it being a full on turnover for something that isn’t any other place on the field

I'm really not sure if it's a fumble or not. I couldn't decide based on the footage. I think the punishment is fair IF the fumble is extremely conclusive but with it feeling as inconclusive and "close" as it did, it felt pretty severe to have that punishment happen there.

 

I’d like Johnson, assuming there’s an opening somewhere for him — he was seemingly good in a non-playcalling capacity, has Steichen ties and Ant Richardson ties, which seems ideal for his development

yeah that was my thought, it didn’t feel conclusive enough to overturn. Ultimately didn’t matter, but that was an aggressive overturn with a weirdly aggressive result of the play
