Woke is becoming the new dog whistle. Like its not even just “oh he’s a democrat” getting mockingly called “woke” now… now it’s just blatantly “oh Jerod Mayo is black and supports equality for other black people, he’s one of those ‘woke’ types” and trying to make fun of AAVE grammar / language in the process.

which is just plain rich because the word “woke” actually got re-popularized by, like, white teenagers on Twitter trying to imitate AAVE to sound cooler lmao. It is extremely outdated black slang that really only old-heads say, and it recently resurfaced in it’s more “ironic” form/meaning in online culture more so than in its origins. And the funniest part about this, is a 1962 article written by a black man called “if you’re woke you dig it” predicted that this would happen:
