Along with that, from what I recall, the debate was about Lamar wanting a fully gtd deal and none of the owners wanting to start that precedent. The owners can deny it, but it definitely seemed like they came together to prevent another fully gtd QB deal being handed out.

They were all mad that the Browns did it with Watson, and they made a point to make sure it didn’t become a regular thing. And I think that’s why you saw the teams come out so quickly to say they weren’t making an offer. It wasn’t because they didn’t rate Lamar, they simply weren’t going to entertain fully gtd deals with top QBs becoming the norm.

Ravens also weren’t going to do it, which is why the negotiations became so dramatic. But, just like the other teams, it wasn’t because they didn’t rate Lamar, it was JUST because of a fully gtd contract. Because they still paid him a lot of money. And that deal is proof that any other team offering a deal would be wasting their time.

1) extend Josh Allen
2) franchise Calvin Ridley
3) sign Tee Higgins
4) spend literally all of their draft on IOL and IDL

The other big lazy take this year related to Panthers is the whole “Frank wanted CJ but was forced to take Bryce” thing.

It’s like someone said it and everyone just went with it as fact. To my knowledge, there is no actual reporting on this. And all indications, based on how it all played out, tell me Frank and everyone else were in-line when selecting Bryce.

But the version of the story is just an easy narrative to paint because of how big of a dope Tepper is.

His best argument for that is his time with Wentz. But I honestly can’t speak on how big of a role he had with Wentz specifically.

After that, he had Andrew Luck. He was going to be great with or without Frank imo. Once Luck retired he had a string of veteran QBs come in who all did a fine job but nothing truly noteworthy.
