kelsey's gotten her heart set on this specific 2024 Trax and I just don't know if we'll find one that's reasonable

her current car payment is $240 lol

That’s a fair distinction but that still doesn’t mean that Press shouldn’t get the hammer first before we start talking about Doug himself. I’m sure Doug’s playbook is full of plays that work in the right situation - my issue the entire year has been Press calling things at times that are situationally ineffective & I could point out examples of this in literally every game.

That’s why I more heavily criticize Press. It’s not play design it’s game flow. It’s taking good play designs and applying them to situations they aren’t designed for.

Welp, unfortunately hiring fleeing college coaches sort of worked out for Seattle last time...

I agree with you. However, my fear, and I know you know this, is that Doug is gonna stand by Press until the end just as he did in Philly

Did the Cowboys fire McCarthy? or are people just talking about it because they think he will be?

An example: Press likes to call things like a reverse, a play designed to take advantage of the defense overpursuing.

Here are the good times to call it:
    1) it can be a big play to generate momentum when your offense is struggling to find it against a defense bearing down on them with blitzes.

    2) if your offense is on fire and the defense’s head is spinning all game trying to stop you, it can be a good morale killer when they’re already playing panicked, frustrated, and undisciplined.

    3) if they haven’t been able to stop your runningback and you notice they just made some adjustments to put 8 pairs of eyes on him at all times, causing them to lose sight of another potential ballcarrier

However, he calls it at times when

    1) the defense is actually playing good gap discipline, stopping Etienne, and giving no indication of over-pursuing
    2) our offense is already rolling on that drive with standard pass play calls and a trick play out of nowhere isn’t necessary
    3) the game is close, no one is panicking, everyone’s thinking clearly enough to account for Ridley on the reverse
    4) at the worst possible time for a high risk play - right when we crossed into field goal range. Even getting 0 yards is 3 points. Instead he’ll call a fucking reverse, arguably the most risky play in terms of losing 7-9 yards for no reason.

that is an example of what I mean. Doug probably designed the reverse great, the blocking scheme is probably tricky in the right way to catch a defense off guard, etc. But Press seems to call it so arbitrarily like “huh let’s try this” and not even consider why, situationally, it may not work as well as it’s been working in practice.

Not to mention we don’t have any starting WRs that are really that dangerous with YAC, the only guy who would even be good at a reverse if we DID call it at a proper time is Agnew, and then it’s just obvious you’re calling a weird play cause why is our WR5 Agnew lined up outside lol. At no point has Ridley shown us he can do that.

Where I get frustrated with Doug, is in the press conference after the game he’ll still say “no I was fine with the call. The play’s designed fine. We just can’t miss blocks / Ridley’s gotta get upfield” etc. and then he’ll deflect and be like “it’s not about one play” even though that’s exactly the point when we completely lost all momentum in the TB game, down 10-0 when we were approaching scoring range. Even though every reporter is asking the same kinds of questions about Press’s play calls every week, he keeps ignoring the red elephant in the room and blaming the players.

The Jets run that same scheme and they've done extremely well against those offenses for the most part.

Get better players in the secondary and rush the passer.

I haven't paid much attention to what Dallas has done defensively lately, but Saleh and Ulbrich are using "baby backers" to get an additional coverage player on the field.

It allows CJ Mosley and Quincy Williams to get better matchups when Michael Carter II and Ashtyn Davis are on the field to take #2 or #3 away. Really hoping Chuck Clark comes back next year because he'll give us another chess piece.

IMG_6179.jpeg Forgot about this little bullshit parlay I had because I had like 2 or 3 other bullshit ones going including a $2 5 game one where I had 4/5 going into the Eagles game and needed them to win by 3+ to win 100 bucks haha
