The problem with doing this stat by attempt is that Mahomes generally does a really good job of avoiding hits, so it feels like he gets calls more often per hit (this perception probably isn't helped by him consistently asking for flags on other plays as well - it's easy to lump them all together). Stafford is a good comparison point because we've all watched him get wrecked for fifteen years and the way Mahomes gets hit (both frequency and severity) is so dramatically different from that and penalty rate per attempt doesn't really capture that (I wish there were some sort of separate "hit after throwing the ball" stat, since that's really what we're talking about.). I'm sure there's been a call or two that Mahomes should've gotten but didn't, but the vibe definitely isn't that he's at a deficit. Allen gets more calls than Mahomes on a per sack basis (and he gets sacked more), but he's one of only five guys ahead of Mahomes that does (Stafford is the exact same rate as Brady, but Stafford has taken more sacks). I think Allen invites contact and flops in a way that Mahomes doesn't, but it feels like the cameras always catch both of them complaining whenever either of them does get hit.
