You can take off whenever you want "as long as it's approved" and your current PTO pool goes away and doesn't get paid out and you get no payout of PTO since you technically don't have any stored

Unlimited PTO is such a scam.

my company doesn't payout any PTO anyway, use it by the end of the calendar year or it's gone forever (minus sick time which accumulates at like, an hour every 2 weeks)

I feel like people who have it actually kind of hate it cause it’s a weird/guilty feeling constantly thinking you’re using too much time? Since our stupid country breeds that mindset.

And then it seems like something management will hold over you if they deem you to use “too much time”

my team is on the road 95% of the time so it was a struggle the last month and a half of the year to get everyone to use their PTO

I honestly feel like unlimited PTO will work well for my general lifestyle and I'll be able to get away with a lot due to it, but it screws over a lot of people and yeah I also just want to use the PTO I have if I can't ever get a payout so it's good to be prepared for it

Yeah, countless studies have come out showing people with unlimited PTO actually end up taking less time. So businesses no longer have to pay out anything, and get a more productive workforce, and you get bupkis unless you're diligent about taking your time off, which they'll end up just holding over your head anyway.

I’m salary and when I’ve had to use weekend days to travel for work I don’t get paid out for them nor did my manager just say: “hey take a day next week.” Nope. Instead she said: “OT means oh thanks”

Meanwhile the hourly employees who traveled got to clock IN and be paid for all their weekend travel. That’s 20+ hours in OT

So the second unlimited PTO ever gets implemented can’t wait to use that as my defense. Plus, I’ll be outsourced in a few years anyways

unlimited PTO can be a double edged sword bc people don't want to use it for fear of abusing it

not me, I request it whenever and it's always approved

I like my company's system. It's basically "Here's an allotment of PTO, but also you work from home and have a 1 year old so just live your life how you need and just get your work done and don't be an asshole"
