I look at my colleagues and I think these are caring, kind, intelligent people in their content areas who are great educators, but they are also dumb af and lack common sense and I do not want them anywhere near a gun. I don’t know how to quantify or measure this scientifically, but We are likely the profession that is least able to capably defend ourselves or others with firearms.

 

My wife is a teacher, and a great one, and would never want to carry a gun. The. Answer. Isnt.

Like how in any world would the solution to school shootings be to add let’s say 50-100 guns INTO the building by putting one in every classroom???

Ya think a student wouldn’t figure out the magic code how to even more easily get their hands on it.

Also, the VAST majority of school shootings are over in a real short period of time. Shooter gets one classroom or one entrance, people scatter, and within 10s the actual deaths are over. Uvalde was sort of a freak one because of how shit the police were.

No teacher is gonna stop the lesson, protect their own students in a corner, then go unlock a safe in the period of time to actually do anything more than maybe 1-2x a year in the whole country...and surely there's gonna be a lot more misfire/misuse deaths than that would safe.
