That’s still only one of four sources who often disagree on pass rushing metrics though.

And composite analytics are kind of a different thing than manually tallying one advanced stat. I do hate ESPN’s composite analytics, their QBR is trash and nowhere near as accurate to scale as the NFL’s own proprietary quarterback rating.

But a guy sitting there tallying every single snap of a pass rusher and determining which were pass rush wins / pressures isn’t about complex relationships between numbers, it’s just about how that guy is seeing each play - and that guy could be equally bad on PFF or PFR’s team

If you're the best rookie of all time at your position, you should be ROTY

From what I've seen there is optimism he'll play this weekend. Ideally, if he can go, give him some routes Sunday in the first half and sit him for the rest of the game. That surgery is something that could easily reaggravated if he over does it too soon, but I think getting him a few game reps under his belt for next week would be good (assuming Jags don't fall on their faces and lose to the Titans.)

    So CJ Stroud? Lol

idk about you but I’ve never seen a rookie QB do what he is doing. I’ve seen / researched second year QBs that played even better than this (most famously Dan Marino in 1984 and Patrick Mahomes in 2018) but never a rookie.

Except that they aren't as bad because PFF runs an incredibly deep operation. They also hire experienced data scientists and have been using and refining a system for 30+ years. It's not just one guy sitting there. They also have a system for how they determine wins and pressures as well, they aim to eliminate as much subjectivity as possible.

Stroud is not the best rookie QB ever.

Don't play him this weekend imo but if you think he's able to then I defer to you

When tallying individual stats, it quite literally is just a guy sitting there tallying them. That was literally the job offer we looked at when PFF was hiring. It’s not like they have AI tallying pressures (which comes with its own issues). Data analytics only comes into play to determine composite relationships between numbers once all the individual stats are tallied. Pressures and win rate are individual statistics

Every organization tries to do this

Then who is? Honestly, I 100% would say he’s the best rookie QB ever. Only one I can think of who comes close is Cam Newton

Don't know off the top of my head but Puka is the one breaking all the records

You are not correct about how they do things. It's not just one guy sitting there doing it.

There’s no other way of doing it that logically makes sense. Sure, they vet people and make sure people who are bad at tallying stats don’t make the cut but once someone’s made the cut it’s entirely up to their discretion; that’s what your trial period of stat collecting was about

That’s literally PFF’s whole THING is they claim to have experts watching every play to tally grades and advanced stats

  21. Jags should sit all their good players this weekend imo

Stroud has the rookie record for most passing yards and pass touchdowns in a game (most QB won’t go for 470/5 TD in a game EVER in their careers), and is very much on pace to break the rookie record for most yards in a season

He won’t break the touchdowns record (passing is held by Herbert with 31; total is held by Newton with 34…) but he’s also handling equally high volume with much fewer turnovers (5 INT compared to Herbert’s 10 and Newton’s 17) which i would argue is more valuable

Like to break the rookie passing record with only 5 INTs / an incredibly low number of turnover worthy plays? And carry a bottom barrel team to the playoffs in the process? That’s the best rookie QB of all time in my opinion

It's not one guy doing things. That's not how it works. What I was doing wasn't even stat collecting it was position tallying. If you prove you can do that quickly and efficiently (at least 98% accuracy) then you could move up into working with one aspect of one position if you test well enough. And even then it's not YOU doing that position. It's a couple dozen others doing the exact same thing and none of THEM are the ones tallying it either, they're essentially fresh eyes and fact checkers for the actual people who track things. Those people are either trained by and fact checked by actual NFL players or they're just actual NFL players. Literally every single NFL and FBS team has contracts with PFF and are used as a source of data. They aren't just some little operation.

Yes, he's very good. I don't think all awards should automatically go to QBs tho
