So there is “some” argument that starting over with a similar prospect is sillier than committing to your initial vision and building an offense that features Moore and MHJ

 

Oh yes definitely. I also don't think people are considering the human element enough. Trading Roquan hurt the team a lot and no way can Eberflus/Poles keep their job AND trade Fields/lose Jaylon

 

So you trade down to 3, load up on capital and come away with the best prospect in the draft and have another top 5 pick. Thats not that bad lol

I don’t have a strong opinion on Flus staying or going — the sense of urgency on the QB is immediate because you have the #1 pick this year and very likely do not have the #1 pick next year. You can pick a new QB and keep Flus for another year and see how he and his staff do and get a similar level HC next year if you don’t like what you see or you can replace them both together, but you probably can’t effectively keep Fields for one more year and replace him as effectively after that. I’m fine with canning Flus if there’s someone out there they feel will maximize new QB, but also think it’s kinda a waste if they spent all this monetary and draft capital on building Flus’ defense only to let him go now that they’re seeing results

I think it’s more the idea that, as the Bears, you could have taken your pick of Bryce Young, CJ Stroud, Anthony Richardson, Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, and Jaylen Daniels and instead decided that Justin Fields was preferable to literally your pick of the last 2 QB classes. You’d have to be REALLY high on Fields in a way that he hasn’t yet delivered on or REALLY low on both of these draft classes to come to that conclusion IMO

(plus picking a QB at 1 this year resets the rookie QB contract clock another 3 years)

In fairness, this is also true if they pick MHJ, who would cost a stupid amount of money for an equivalent of his talent.
