Safeties usually have a decently high learning curve so I wouldn't begin to worry until year three tbh. But yes, Brown being 3rd is not praise but an indictment of how little the safety class has done so far. He's third mostly because of run defense and the fact that like you said, he's good near the line of scrimmage. a DB having a lower depth of tackle than most defensive linemen is pretty impressive.

I first thought about posting a photo of David Wallace.

 

He has legit speed, which I’m excited about long term if he can develop his instincts. I’m a little concerned about him getting more game reps at slot corner than safety and I hope that doesn’t stunt his development at the position they drafted him to play.

But I won’t be surprised if he’s given a starting job next season alongside Reed Blankenship. They can save about $14m by cutting Kevin Byard and incur no dead money so, if they don’t like what Byard provides them down the stretch of the season and throughout the playoffs, I think Brown will be given a starting job next year. I know they think very highly of him within the organization.

I liked him a lot in Illinois. He can play slot as well but I like him moving around more tbh. Same with both other Illinois DBs. It'll take longer to develop but I think the Eagles are the perfect organization for Brown.

I love Reed. He was so good at Middle Tennessee. I likened him more to Andrew Wingard in the sense that he'll probably be with whoever drafted him for life but I didn't think he'd actually be a plus starter lol. he's been balling.

 

Reed has arguably been the best player in the secondary for the Eagles. He’s been a legit solid/good player for them. Hell of a find and signing by the organization. Huge get
