    Yeah this one especially.

also I didn’t catch this until I was hate watching highlights, but Devin Lloyd didn’t get beat as bad as I thought by Kittle. Purdy actually threw a perfect pass toward the hash, which fooled Lloyd (who had his back turned) cause the point of that route is normally to be a sideline catch. Lloyd covered it great for a LB in one on one, where it’s normally thrown he would’ve broken up the pass - and still would’ve been in position to make the tackle even though the ball landed in an unexpected place, except, Kittle got away with a little OPI. It was subtle in real time, but this is why Lloyd fell:

You are definitely not allowed to stiff arm a guy right before the ball gets there, but I like football to be a little bit gritty and physical so I’m gonna give credit to Kittle for being a pro and knowing how to do it just casually enough at the catch point to not get called.

I’m gonna give Lloyd a break for giving up the TD that blew the game out of reach, good learning moment for the young buck - sometimes players know how to cheat and you gotta be tough and not fall on your ass

I mean it’s not an egregious “cheat”, more so, it breaks the rules in a way that every good possession WR breaks the rules without getting caught by refs

lot of top tier WRs / TEs have perfected the art of the push off.

Great players commit penalties and don’t get caught for it

    It’s truly an art

Yeah like I’m praising Kittle cause it was so subtle I didn’t even catch it during the game haha, good on him, that was a “welcome to the NFL” catch. Sucks Lloyd did everything right and still got embarrassed, but that’s that little bit of extralegal fighting that exists in the NFL and if Lloyd has that dog in him he’ll be ready for that next time.

I was more annoyed that we called man coverage in the first place. Rewatching the highlights though, I get why we did call so much man. Shanahan is such a good playcaller.

He was setting up his deep shots by having Deebo or CMC in motion on almost every single play, and forcing us to call plays that commit a man to both of them, cause they kept turning swing passes into big yardage.

We were trying to blitz Purdy - it worked and stopped two of their drives in the first half - but every time we’d think it was situationally a good time to blitz with zone, he would see it coming and they’d actually call a misdirection pass or handoff to CMC / Deebo and get 20 yards with really good power blocking. Having some guys overpursue the play while others are far away from the action… zone blitzes are really bad fits for teams like the 49ers who have like 8 guys on their offense that know how to pull block.

Trent Williams and Kyle Juszczyk were absolutely mauling us on runs and short passes. And hell even Deebo Samuel is really good at getting in the way. They also had just the right amount of misdirection to have our guys second guessing things and hesitating at the snap.

So then we started calling base man again, but Brock’s offensive line is GOOD and whenever we didn’t send more than 4 he had a pocket. So then we started man blitzing and that’s exactly where Shanahan was again, 2 steps ahead of us - and right when we thought it was safe to blitz because it was 2nd and inches and they only needed one yard, he calls a deep shot to Kittle. And of course that’s when Purdy made his best throw of the day, right on time, feet set, Travon Walker in his face, led Kittle inside instead of outside cause he could see Lloyd overselling to the outside in order to not get flanked.

    Takeaways:
    1) Brock Purdy is legit and despite his flaws he will make the throw that needs to be made. His arm talent isn’t as bad as everybody thinks, and while he ain’t scrambling away from pressure he sure as hell will stand tall and throw when the pocket is a mess

    2) Kyle Shanahan did everything that Press Taylor DOESNT do as a playcaller and Taylor needs to learn from the guy who just outcoached Mike Caldwell all game

    Lets Go. Prestigious

I am fine with people not being excited to watch the Dolphins Hard Knocks. I didn't watch one second of the Jets one just because I didn't want to hear about Rodgers

the thing that sucks is that Tua all but said that he won't be doing any one on one interviews for it. I have no idea if they will force him to or whatever, but he is a private guy and I would imagine he doesnt want to be filmed

I don't want to see Tyreek Hill or Xavien Howard because they are shitheads. I do think it will be cool to see guys like Christian Wilkins, Raheem Mostert, and Jaelan Phillips who seem like genuinely good dudes

The difference between them is -

Press: what calls are usually good in this situation on average, based on what the opponent has already been doing this game? (If you’re too by the book and too reliant on what the opponent has already shown you, you’re naturally gonna be too predictable. Every GOOD team already expects him to do the things he does. Just because a run to the outside has a high success rate on 2nd and 7 doesn’t mean you should do it on 2nd and 7 so much that that’s what the whole league expects from you.)

Shanahan: what my opponent did last drive doesn’t matter, every drive is different. How is my opponent most likely to ADJUST in this situation, and how can I catch them off guard right when they thought they fixed their gameplan
