Vandy just did the absolute perfect fake punt. Only for the punter to fumble when he refused to give himself up and the Vols recovered.

lol now we are down to 0 games of any significance other than as a de facto elimination games so that the 5 seed on a bye might sneak in

it’s gonna be even worse when there’s a 12 team playoff. I really hope these games go the way of the conference divisions and just disappear when they realize how much of an embarrassment these games are in a playoff system instead of a bowl system (spoiler: they won’t)

irrelevant to that, conference championships on top of a 12 team playoff are bad

What an early Christmas present today was.

Clemson lost, Ohio State lost, LSU (Brian Kelly) lost, Notre Dame lost… almost couldn’t ask for anything more.

One of those days that makes me wonder how I actually feel about expanding to 12 team playoff. Very fun day. We are left with 1 question as of now..... usc or Ohio St.

but imagine if we had NFL division championship games as something in between the regular season and the postseason, and also that those games were winner take all for the byes and that they factored into the wildcard standings

If USC wins next week they’re in. And since it seems like Williams is now the lead for the Heisman (I think), I don’t think the committee would potentially leave a conference champion with a one point loss AND likely Heisman winner out of the playoffs.

    Georgia
    Michigan
    TCU
    USC

    Ohio St
    Tennessee
    Alabama
    Washington
    Kansas State
    Penn State

My guess at the top ten, but they’ll probably swap Tennessee and Alabama despite the head to head. Just don’t quite understand why Ohio State’s blowout loss to Virginia Tech who ended up 7-6 in the first year of the playoff is better than Tennessee’s blowout loss to an 8-4 Gamecocks this season other than in brand name and “recent history.”

Neither Tennessee nor Alabama deserve to be in the playoff over a one-loss Ohio State just because of the second loss. But if TCU and USC both lose next weekend, I still don’t think either should get a chance to sneak in at 4 (I’d give it to a one loss TCU to be honest, but that won’t happen).

This season is an example of why four is perfect in a season with so few games. Yeah, 12 would be exciting… but Tenn-Bama, UGA-Tenn, USC-UCLA, Ohio State-Michigan, etc were already de facto playoff games. But it’s also not fair to many of the other conferences, that’s also true and why it should be expanded (and conference championships dropped). Just kinda rambling my thoughts.

    Georgia’s best wins: Oregon, Tennessee
Michigan’s best wins: Penn State, Ohio State
    TCU’s best wins: KState, Texas

USC’s best wins: UCLA, Notre Dame
    — loss: Utah
Ohio State’s best wins: Notre Dame, Penn State
    — loss: Michigan

    Tennessee’s best wins: LSU, Alabama
    — loss: Georgia, South Carolina
Alabama’s best wins: Texas, Ole Miss
    — loss: Tennessee, LSU
Washington’s best wins: Oregon, Oregon State
    — loss: USC, Arizona State
Kansas State’s best wins: Oklahoma State, I guess
    — loss: Tulane, TCU, Texas
Penn State’s best wins: not found, just took care of business of a weak schedule outside of UM/OSU
    — loss: Michigan, Ohio State

Looking at this way, to me, it’s hard to really justify any playoff four outside of Georgia (even if they lose), Michigan (even if they lose), TCU (even if they lose), and USC (if they win)/Ohio State (if USC loses). Even if I think Tennessee (even without Hooker) and Alabama both beat TCU in a head to head; it would be pretty shitty to put a 10-2 team in over a 12–1 team; but I also think the committee would do it to them if the result was bad enough.

That being said, if we had 12 and everyone won out, you’d have some pretty fun first round games with these home atmospheres guaranteed already for the wildcard round: Ohio State, Tennessee, and Alabama. Clemson wins next weekend and they’d probably get the other home game.

I would simply not rush the field and get in a giant defensive lineman’s face but perhaps I am different
