    Great Googly Moogly Prestigious

I remember how excited I was about the 12 team playoff two years ago or so, before texas/ou changed conferences and set the major dominoes in motion

I was still into it even recently, sorta, but now we are already expanding it to 14....giving the sec and big 10 three auto births....plus 3 wild cards....so I mean, essentially you're giving the sec like 4 or 5 trams every year.

Way to make September and October pretty irrelevant. Hate it. It's just unnecessary

you know what made it relevant? A four team playoff.

If anything it makes the losses more equal. You can lose 1 game in September and be fine but lose 1 in December and you're dead. That sucks.

    The rivalry is back on

IMO, you just simply shouldn’t lose; not the most ideal, but much much better than *this*

BCS/national championship solved for the problem of “regional college football in too big of a league doesn’t pit the best teams against each other enough” — great! best solution in theory, occasionally clunky execution of it

4 team playoff solves for “what if 3+ teams go undefeated? — let them play for it” and kinda did that (still broken with FSU out) but broke the rest of the entire bowl format (who cares about the NY6 when it’s just a loser’s bracket?)

12/14 team playoff solves for “oops we diluted our cool postseason format that was working before with this stupid playoff — let’s put a band-aid on it without actually fixing any of the underlying issues!” and is gonna break the regular season in the same way. It’s gonna totally suck when (2) Michigan vs (3) Ohio St in the final week of the season turns into a battle of backups and stunted game plans because who cares they’re both in the playoff anyways

imo the only way a 12/14 team playoff works is if you add the couple of compelling teams from the ACC + ND to SupErConference, probably weed out the Vanderbilt and Northwesterns of the current group, and have those teams exclusively play each other, (which is where we’re going unfortunately but aren’t there yet)

but 3 losses being the bar to make the playoff when each team only plays a max of 5 (and that’s probably generous) good games and tying everything to conferences and pretending that the ACC and Big 12 (which will play maybe 1 or 2 of those marquee types of games) are on similar footing with the others and forcing seeding and auto qualifiers in these weird ways is going to just be a mess

I don't think it is better than this. At least no one can call you biased for thinking this though haha

The four team leaving FSU out was a feature not a bug.

I don't think 12 is the perfect number but I'd also 100000% rather have too many than too few. If it were up to me I think 8 is the cleanest solution although if it were up to me also my solution would be very not-clean lol

It’s just wild to be so resistant to something every other level of college football has had, successfully, for decades.

In his defense Arch Manning would spend more time on the paperwork to opt into CFB25 than he will spend playing on the field this season!

(But for real stop being a coward Arch)

“Focused on football” like signing some paperwork for your likeness is a hindrance to on field performance
