Can't wait for BoB to tell the QB he shouldn't play QB.

Players are leaving like we just hired Butch Jones to replace Saban and not the 2023 AP Coach of the Year. This shit is so weird. I'm just gonna assume the NIL collective at Bama is total dogshit.

He left because DeBoer brought Austin Mack with him

Well, I guess I get that. I didn't realize Mack was any good. Thought he was just some backup type dude DeBoer liked. I was speaking more about what feels like the entire team jumping ship though. I knew some guys would leave, but damn. It's a new kick in the nuts every day. I'm not even mad at this point. It's numbing and comical in a way.

Oh well, I'll take a 15 year dynasty even if it means I have to deal with this shit at the end.

Mack was a ~top 10 QB out of high school. Not exactly a bad transfer to come with DeBoer...

You were also right that the NIL collective is really bad especially compared to other top programs.

Sounds like when kids said they committed to Bama because they trusted Saban's plan to get them to the league they meant it.

DeBoer may know ball, but he has the personality and gravitas of a PE teacher who’s about to retire. Not surprised he’s not winning on the (re)recruiting trail

But that’s literally what I’m saying?
He’s a really good smart football coach but he’s not a good recruiter or a charismatic person

There is currently a bunch of dudes leaving the program and decommittng, which is what I was directly responding to

Saying someone has success everywhere as a coach does not automatically mean they'll have success in Tuscaloosa. While they probably have the program most setup for success, it also has the most scrutiny, and don't think that there aren't sharks in the water (most notably Lanning, Sark, Smart, Kiffin and to a lesser degree, Freeze) waiting for the absolute most miniscule slip up to win these recruits over.

will you say the same things about Sherrone Moore if players start to transfer from Michigan?

They're kidding themselves then. Saban left far from an empty cupboard, has all the resources a program could ever want, and the program has booster support. There's alignment and resources there that only other programs could dream of, and that's all Saban's doing.

I am taking a wait and see approach until after the spring transfer window. There is always going to be some attrition when a coach leaves. Bama lost some big time players to the portal, no doubt; however, they were only able to pick from a couple team's roster to supplant those defections because the portal window had closed. They did get a few players from UW I believe. The high school recruiting trail seems to be going fine with getting the 5-star Williams this week. Once teams go through spring practice and see the depth chart a little more clearly, there will be another wave of portal transfers and Bama should in theory be able to fix more holes. I think that will be a better gauge at what their roster will look like heading into summer.

I think this was going to happen almost regardless of the hire because guys want to play for certain coaches more than schools in many cases. A lot of dudes wanted to play for Saban because he had a proven track record of getting guys to the NFL and they were willing to take less NIL money to do so. I’d say most of the guys leaving are young and won’t get that chance so they’re going to get their money/more playing time or older guys who’ve established themselves, learned from him, and now likely want to get paid (Bond & Downs). Either way I think the moves are more of an indictment on Bama’s lack of a strong NIL collective compared to other schools than the hire of DeBoer. He’s got a good history and good staff around him so if he can show the coaching side of things will still be high quality, the recruiting side will come with it too.
