This report about ACC teams being sad because they're the 3rd most successful conference is making me sad. We are so god damn close to having a fun college football playoff format and its like every fucking school and conference keep want to throw wrenches in it.

I love the regionality and rivalry aspect of college football. Keeping it largely what it's always been but adding a fun tournament that gives smaller schools a little fun at the end is all I wanted.

But we really are gonna get 2 mega conferences and thats it.

Reading up on the Big Ten scheduling plan and lay out after USC and UCLA join and without looking at it too carefully it seems mostly well thought out with the saved games and the two year window of scheduling conference games.

Still kind of crazy that USC vs Ohio State is going to be a regular occurrence in a few years when previously the only real shot was in a national title game or Rose Bowl game. Now it could just be a random week 5 game lol

So did I understand right? Rival games will still happen every year or is it twice every four years?

without pulling up the article I believe rivalry games are the protected games that will happen every year. The twice in two years thing is something different but can’t remember exactly what. I think there is a grouping of opponents that will get scheduled twice every four years and the four years allows some teams to back out if the opponent isn’t trending so well.

An example I think would be that Wisconsin might be expected to play UCLA twice between 2030-2034 and that would have to be decided by 2026 and a school can decline that and move to a different conference opponent if they think it will help them better. That way a school isn’t locked in to playing Minnesota in 2045 if they agree to that now because they have a few good years.

In general it’s a good idea imo because the previous way of scheduling at least out of conference like a decade in advance never really helped out much. I think Oregon agreed to play Texas when they were solid/ok but by the time those years rolled around Texas was a “meh” opponent and wouldn’t really mean much for SOS.

I’m amped for the 2024 Georgia schedule

Getting Bama, Texas, Clemson, Tennessee, Florida, Auburn, and Ole Miss all in one season makes more than half of the season appointment viewing, which beats the heck out of Georgia’s 2023 schedule, which mostly sucks til November

San Diego state leaving the mountain west. But no official offer from the pac or anything

I don't get why the pac doesn't just add sdsu and Boise and call it a day. Are they as big or good as usc/ucla....no....obviously not... but they're good programs

Eh. Too close to Stanford and cal market. And looking at enrollment size they're the same as Boise and smaller than sdsu

And in terms of what their teams have accomplished Fresno is behind sdsu and Boise

SDSU should be the first one they add. Fresno, Boise, UNLV, SMU and Colorado State too

SDSU is worth more just for their basketball program alone. Both have football programs that have been great on occasion. Definitely prefer SDSU over Fresno in the PAC.

yeah, I think the future PAC-12 is functionally closer to the Mountain West of 5 years ago adding Washington St, Oregon St, and whoever else gets left behind than what it currently is, and it’s just a matter of what order those additions happen in

Fresno State is not behind SDSU in football. Definitely in basketball.

Everyone in the MWC is behind Boise State, but the BSU we know today doesn't exist without what Pat Hill did at Fresno.

I think Fresno goes Big 12 though.

    The rivalry is back on

you’d know better than I would if there’s serious smoke around Fresno to Big 12, but I feel like the Big 12 is gonna be Arizona/Arizona St/Colorado/Utah cluster or bust unless the PAC-12 gets something on paper that’s compelling enough to keep them and UW/Oregon from leaving

no, four appearances with losses. three conference championships, four top 10 finishes. it's so funny when people try to tear down the badgers as if a) we don't say way worse stuff about the team ourselves and b) your sorry ass teams accomplish anything at all.
