Windhorst was on a podcast the other day and said the league prohibits this. There’s a certain term he said but basically, there’s a protocol where if you’re signing your own guys to outrageous contracts just to trade it, you can only trade it for 50% of the salary. I.E. if you sign a bum player for 20 million, you can only trade him for $10 million in salary.

 

But how is a bum player classified in the cba

 

Based on stats/history/league projection? I suppose. Obviously, eyes are gonna roll if a team is suddenly signing their third stringers for $20 million

Based on what I've read, Windy's not entirely correct.

While BYC complicates immediate sign and trades by averaging the player's new salary with the previous one, those rules no longer apply mid-season.
