If he would have made both free throws in 13 he could have went back to back. Probably could’ve squeezed one more of out of the big 3 era in San Antonio too.

Not a good start for the US. A bunch of guys still look like they're getting back in shape.

Wade pretty much being the 2008 MVP playing off the bench, should show it probably doesn’t matter

Other countries are going to have a huge problem matching up with the Ant/Tatum/Bam bench.

Kawhi dropping out seemed inevitable as soon as he was announced on the team. It does suck if the Clippers are the ones telling him no though.

I kind of thought Embiid was unlikely too. I figured Philly might withdraw him for injury reasons.

Canada should absolutely medal. If they get lucky they could win gold, but I think that would involve a very off game for the US. I think the loss of Wiggins and Edey hurts them a decent amount. Yes Wiggins had a bad year, but he’s still a good scorer and defender. Edey will probably not have a great NBA career, but his size is such a huge plus in the FIBA game where big men can just park in the paint.

idk i get that the olympics are a huge deal for some guys but its hard for me to blame the clippers too much for saying "we only have like 27 games of you to begin with why risk losing another 8 bc you tweak a knee in paris".

See, as a fan of the game this just bums me out. I just feel like international basketball could be much more fun, but NBA interests get in the way a lot of the time. Guys opting out because they need to recover is fair enough, but it’s a bummer when teams withhold guys who want to play or players sit out because of free agency. Even NBA fans don’t really want to see their team’s players compete.

I get it, there’s a ton of money involved, and that Paul George injury still sticks in everyone’s memory. It doesn’t seem like international soccer tournaments are plagued by these same issues though and they usually a little more exciting for it. I can’t help but think if the world’s top league were based in any other country, the culture around international basketball would be stronger.

FIBA also routinely makes very stupid decisions that hinder international ball too though, so it’s not entirely an NBA issue.

man I remember being at a bar with my gf (now wife) when he went down and the whole bar groaned. That was brutal. I have a knack for catching these gruesome knee injuries live (Hayward comes to mind, and that guy from A&M).

I think the only one I are live as Hayward. I remember tuning in literally 30 seconds before it happened. Absolutely brutal.
