I've never experienced this, but my current job required us to be there for three years before family members qualified for insurance. Luckily that policy is gone now, but I'm not sure how our moron negotiators allowed that to go through.

 

Do they ever punish players for tampering? It's always just the team, right?

If so, I'm at a loss why Harden wouldn't say a handshake deal happened if it happened.

 

Because it's not tampering it's salary cap circumvention and i think that could land him in trouble?

I think it's just the team usually, and something like a fine (in an amount that seems large to a normal person), and maybe they take away a 2nd rounder or two.

Correct. It would be similar to when Minnesota and Joe Smith had their handshake arrangement. In that case the team was fined $3.5 million, and forfeited five years of 1st rounders. Smith's contracts were voided, and he lost his Bird rights. I doubt Harden would care if Philly got punished, but he might suffer financially, too.
