Can someone explain the timberwolves thing?

 

Seems like the current owner backed out of the deal because the team’s value is likely going up as they’re becoming a contender and he could now sell the team for more money

So I’m realizing I need the Timberwolves to lose a game or two more because I’d much rather face them than OKC or DEN.

Pels throughout the year have shown they can match up pretty well with Dallas, LAC, Minnesota, SAC, GSW, PHX etc basically every other team that is a threat in the West, but OKC just has our number & we have nothing to stop Jokic. Very preferable for the Pelicans if we can avoid playing those teams early in the playoffs and at least get hot against somebody else first. I’d also love if the Lakers could get bounced out in the play-in, cause D’Angelo Russell has murdered us twice this year.

 

SGA is too damn good at getting fouls man, I know I complained about it before but Herb Jones fouled out off the dumbest shit last time we played them. OKC made me realize, that’s really the key to beating the Pelicans when we are full strength. You’d think it’s stopping Zion or BI, but it’s actually taking Herb’s defense out of the game cause that’s what makes us stifle other high scoring teams.

Our bench plays great defense & Zion / Ingram / Valanciunas started giving a lot more defensive effort this year. It’s contagious and that’s been a HUGE reason why we’re actually good this year overall despite lacking any true 40+ point scoring stars. But it all starts with Herb Jones taking the toughest assignment every game. If he can’t defend the opponent’s star at guard/small forward without fouling (which, he can guard almost everyone without fouling, but not SGA) then we start giving up mad threes and that’s always what breaks our confidence and momentum in our bad games

We are not “clutch” on offense - our key to winning is how tenacious our defense is and how all 10 guys fight for the ball and get steals, so while we can score 120 points, we mostly win by holding them to 105-110, not by managing the final minute better and getting that last 1-2 crucial shots. With Herb neutralized by fouls (SGA), I could see the latter issue cropping up a lot more often in a 5 or 7 game series and us not coming through and creating that shot.

Herb did get beat recently by Tatum/Brown in Boston and by Devin Booker 2 Suns games ago lol, not denying that. Those were both insane shooting performances (which Booker did not repeat a week later, but Tatum/Brown probably could). But I’ve seen him flat out deny superstars from their bread and butter shots so many times this season, that I’d bet on him across a series if the refs weren’t being real ticky tacky with any contact at all. The minute a player is amazing at selling that shit, it’s a problem that rattles the core of our team’s strategy.
