Lol it’s kinda their thing. They get incredibly lackadaisical in games that for lack of a better term, don’t mean a whole lot to them. 9 game win streak on the road in Atlanta up 25, they 100% mailed it in until it was too late.

They also don’t really close out close games well in general. It’s annoying. But oh well.

Finally got around to watching Pelicans Heat, great game for us.

we were lucky the Heat were… cold (no pun intended but lol!)

but it still feels nice to finally fucking beat a team that has owned us the previous 7 matchups, especially in a game where Zion played like ass, Ingram sat out, and we had just played the previous night

exceptional performance by our bench (Naji Marshall, Larry Nance Jr, Jose Alvarado are all great defenders and sometimes good offensive role players) and especially by Herb Jones who frustrated Butler the entire game. Also, CJ / Trey / Herb are always capable of extending a lead with threes if they get hot. All 3 are hitting 40% behind the arc iirc

Also am I just biased or is Herb Jones legit already one of the best defenders in the league in year 3? I RARELY see other players whose timing and IQ is THAT good when it comes to help defense, and who are that good at mirroring a guy and blocking his path without fouling

dude could be a shutdown cornerback in the NFL lol. He’s all over the damn court and contests every shot and pass it feels like

 

One more pelicans thing

We are a wayyyy better team when we actually rebound and attack the ball with passion. I see a huge difference there vs last year & early this year, that only be explained by maturity / growth and Willie Green’s coaching. Our 3 point shooting is the biggest improvement on the team… but right below that is the fact that Zion, Ingram, and Trey Murphy etc are showing way more fight on defense and are no longer one sided players.

We are a zillion times more tenacious when we don’t just leave tip drills and aggressiveness to Herb and Valanciunas or some shit and let everybody else be soft. Whole roster fights for the ball and puts heart into contesting shots now.
