I do not like the lakers! I have no allegiance, I’m in it for the love of the game baby.

If anything I was hoping Hali would go off and take it since this seems like a much more fun thing for a young team to win

I like the extra flavor the IST games gave to this portion of the season. I understand why logistically it had to happen, but it felt weird that the most important game of all felt like it mattered the least

I could maybe be sold on it if all the games were within a 7-10 day stretch of the season. The early November random games were not adding anything. Like, didn’t even realize the first two Cavs games vs Pacers and Pistons were IST games and nobody gave a shit either as we were like, 2 weeks into the season.

Again, not 100% against it, I just think it needs to be more well-thought out.

I promise im not trying to be a jerk when I say this, but how is this possible lmao?! What courts were you looking at? Did you watch the games on mute? Because every group game I watched every other line from the commentators was about how this is part of the new in-season tournament.

I get the criticisms, it’s not the championship. But it didn’t feel like the players were celebrating like it was either. I still think the basic concept misses what makes things like the FA cup great - you’ve got teams from every level competing, whereas this is just the same teams you’d be playing in the season anyway.

But at the end of the day, this was fun. It made the games feel a little more meaningful and added a little extra intensity. Plenty of things to tweak but I just don’t think this first version deserves all the clowning it’s getting in here. People are talking like it destroyed the game lol

Obviously, once the games started, it was apparent (however, I was actually on a flight to Florida the Friday night they played at Indy, so the first I saw/heard of the courts was in an Uber ride to my hotel).

The point was, there was no hoopla for the majority of those first 2-3 IST games. It wasn’t until the 4th game and Vegas games when it was more revved up and talked about.

Also, the majority of the games weren’t televised outside of local markets so…most people couldn’t even watch them anyways.

Also none of these criticisms would be happening if it was the Pacers who won

They really do need to have a bigger incentive for fans to care. The quality of play is great but there for sure isn’t a single fan bummed that their team didn’t win it lol.

Love the idea of an extra pick at the end of the lottery. Would be a much bigger deal if, say, the Bucks were able to earn an extra asset to make a trade this season. Let it have bigger implications for the actual playoff race.

I like that one and theres a lot of good ideas out there to raise the stakes, but think it’s a balancing act in the end. You want the stakes to be high, but at the same time I think the idea is to have the NBA Cup stand on its own as opposed to just something in service of the playoffs or draft.

Five to ten years years from now my guess is Adam Silver and others around the league would rather this be something the players talk about as part of their legacy rather than a tool they used to gain a playoff spot or draft pick. Sure, it’ll never be a championship (and I don’t think anyone inside or outside the league has any delusions about that), but I think the ultimate measure of success is if it’s something the players and fans care about it on its own.

(Did not read the last 4 pages of thread so apologies of this topic was covered)

The point differential being the deciding factor at times seemed odd but idk what would be a better determining factor when this happened so early in the season. Biggest issue I heard with the point differential is that the teams playing the last game of the day would know how much they needed to win by to advance which teams earlier in the day would not know, so that seems like something that should/could be fixed in the future if they continue to use point differential
