Opening ceremony 2/4/22. I have a feeling this is going to be one of most downplayed Olympics as far as coverage goes in decades. Most interested in Curling to see if Team Shuster will get US it's 2nd consecutive Men's Curling Gold. New events for 2022: Women's Monobob (single person bobsled) Mixed Team relay short track speed skating Men's and Women's big air freestyle skiing Mixed team freestyle skiing aerials Mixed team ski jumping Mixed team snowboard cross
Currently watching the Peacock doc on the 2018 US Men's Curling team narrated by Nick Offerman. Man the "Team of Rejects" story is so great. One of best dramatic sports narratives for US Olympics in decades, up there with Miracle On Ice. Surprised it hasn't been made a film yet. Shuster better be Team USA flag bearer during the opening ceremony.
Downhill alpine skiing for me; course itself looks pretty dope. Same look as the previous Olympics area in Pyeongchang, as in plenty of snow on the course, but no snow in the surrounding mountain areas, haha
It's pretty easy to understand once you get past the lingo. 10 rounds (Ends) in a game. Doubles has 8 Ends Each team get 8 turns an End to toss the stone the team that has a stone closest the center (button) of the target area (house) after each team gets 8 tosses wins the End and gets a point, and then an extra point for every additional stone they have closer to the button than the other team after the 6th End if one of the team feels like it's Impossible to win they can concede the game there is a lot of defensive strategy involving setting up shots to block your opponents stones and knocking your opponents stones out of position
I love it. It's the only sport in the Olympics that feels more like a game of strategy than a game of athletic prowess.
So originally the US flagbearers were going to be John Shuster and Bobsledder Elana Myers Taylor. Myers has tested positive for Covid and now it's going to be Shuster and speedskater Brittany Bowe.
Curling is basically bocce ball on ice, if that helps anyone confused haha Doubles curling on USA network right now
US aint doing too hot. Feel like they're having a hard time adjusting to that ice. Italy is looking real great. My pick to win Doubles right now.
My main issue with Curling coverage is I wish there was a chyron on screen that tells you which team currently has the stone closest to the button so we don't have to eyeball it to determine who is currently winning the end.
Unless I’m mistaken, it seems like the players don’t know either, they don’t bring out that measuring jawn until all stones are thrown…probably to not give anyone an advantage in their throws
Plys/Persinger just beat China now making them 3-2. Hopefully we keep the momentum going. Italy is the only team currently undefeated in mixed doubles round robin play EDIT and then we lost to Canada 7-2. So much for that lol. Hopefully we should still do good enough in Round Robin to make it into Tournament play.
Slopestyle judging was truly baffling last night. Even the NBC announcer was just perplexed by some of those scores.
There was one point where one of the Canadians was pulling totally clean 540s and 720s and somehow got a lower score than someone who was basically just doing grabs and I just don't get it lol
