I would mock the Bills endlessly for that trade

Imagine giving up a first for an expensive RB who has barely played football for the last two years

I wouldn't mind Mostert, but I don't want that to be our "big" move at running back

Mostert, re-sign Duke, and draft someone on day 2 like Spiller and I am happier than a pig in shit

I’m sure you are aware of this, but they were prepared to draft JK Dobbins and Javontae Williams in the last two drafts before the Ravens and Broncos took them just before the Dolphins could. Even if they sign Mostert, I absolutely see them drafting someone to be the primary guy with Mostert as the big play threat. Maybe Gaskin would be relegated to third downs?

Especially when there are free agents (See below) that would come at half the price and be just as big a crapshoot

I mean, CMC is a generational talent, so I get wanting him, but committing $15+mil/yr to a RB when your QBs cap number explodes from $19->$40mil starting next year is as dumb a move as any team could make

Yeah I’m not knocking CMC as a talent. I love the player, but it just does not make sense financially with where the Bills are at.

I also thought it didn’t make sense for the Panthers to keep him around either in the first place, but I understand teams try to keep leaders around in the locker room and, after releasing Cam, they needed someone to be the face of the franchise to keep fans interested and to push jersey sales lol

yep...Eric Studesville (RB coach turned Co-OC now RB coach again) was reportedly "in love" with both Dobbins and Jonathan Taylor. The reports are that Flores did not want to take a RB that high in the draft. However, you can hear that both McDaniel and Grier say multiple times unprompted so far this offseason have said how important RB is

I was annoyed we missed on Javonte last year, but getting Jevon Holland instead made me quickly forget about it

I like Gaskin but he was atrocious in pass pro last year. I would think Duke Johnson is better suited for that role.

I’ve never been keen on making RB a big financial focal point of a team, but I think the Niners have done well at that position the last few years and I fully expect McDaniels to follow that model. You just cannot take zeroes at that position like the Dolphins have in recent seasons and that’s definitely going to be addressed.

As for Gaskin, I didn’t realize he was so bad in pass pro. Dude will barely sniff the playing field when they bring in a rookie and probably a free agent (whether that’s Mostert, Duke, both, or someone else entirely).

yeah, Gaskin has far exceeded expectations (especially given draft position), but it was crazy how much better Duke Johnson looked when playing last year compared to Gaskin....he just doesnt have good enough vision

  13. I don't hate the idea of giving CMC that big contract, they just did it too early. As far as we know, CMC was not making a big stink about getting his new deal, but we rushed it anyways. We extended him after his 3rd season when we had him cheap for 2 more years. If they had waited, his injury would've dropped the price.

The other weird part of the CMC extension was that it came right when we were about to completely flip the roster and rebuild. Would've made more sense to be patient with that sort of thing imo.

We did the same thing with Robby. He had a great first season with us and we immediately extended him despite there still being another year left on his deal. Year 2 was a giant turd (not all his fault but partially).

This is a really good point. Its one thing if you extend him in the 5th-year option year, rather than deal with a potential franchise tag, etc...but doing it for a RB after year 3 (after back to back 300+ touch seasons) is very dumb.

I thought he was worth the money (and if he was healthy, I still would), but if they had waited, he probably settles for more like 4/$50mil than 4/64

  15. I'm late to this, but I just listened to that clip of Mike McDaniel posted a couple pages back. I liked it!

I can definitely see how it comes across as smug, but I'm all for some of these dumb questions to get snarky responses like that (and the response wasn't even *that* snarky). "Are you looking for another Deebo?" Uh, yeah, why wouldn't I be looking for a player like that.

    The rivalry is back on

Maybe an unpopular take, but since the cap is a lie and RBs tend to have severely limited earnings windows, I appreciate the Panthers doing right by McCaffrey earlier since he was so dominant on the rookie deal even if it didn’t end up being “good business”

  17. Yeah, I'm still happy for him.

I'd like to see us restructure the contracts of CMC, Shaq, and Moton. It'd open up a decent amount of cap space in a crucial offseason.

this is what I mean...I'm just happy to actually get some honesty and real personality from these guys given the last 2 coaches we've had were literal bumps on a log

they've been a loser organization for 20 years. Of course any coach that doesn't win is going to sour on the fans, etc so I dont see it as a big deal

Like, literally we got more honesty yesterday alone from McDaniel/Grier than we have for the past 5 years.

door is closed on trading for Watson, telling Ogbah "we want you", saying they will re-work Xavien Howard's contract again to keep him happy, etc
