The thing I dont understand initially is how Araiza wasn't arrested outright in October for statutory rape. Dude admitted that he had sex with a 17yr old while the cops were listening...which is very much illegal in CA.

Do we not recognize the male white majority makes up most of every police force and any crime can go unpunished / any non-crime can get severely punished strictly based on their own discretion, bias, and mood that day? They can ignore charges, or fabricate charges, against anyone they want, especially considering the consequences for cops are so scant and weak. They don’t even get punished for turning off their body cameras or lying in court for fucks sake.

hot take, democracy isn’t actually fair because the majority is often a privileged (and largely prejudiced) class of people that is guaranteed to get their way regardless, at everyone else’s expense. We need to do BETTER than democracy, it becomes more clear every day
