Alright, Im officially on the Lions bandwagon after that...just finished Far Cry 6 and was trying to figure out what I wanted to fill time with now...and a replay of Red Dead feels right

Yeah as I watched Hard Knocks the other day I kept trying to figure out who he reminded me of!

They wouldn’t have traded for Jimmy G anyways, they have Flacco. And yes, I understand Jimmy G might be better than Flacco, but at this point in both of their careers, neither one of them would propel this Jets team into a winner so it wouldn’t make any sense to give up assets for him, let alone take on his contract

Jimmy G would make the Jets just good enough to not be the worst.

Jimmy is a huge question mark anyways, he had offseason shoulder surgery (and the torn thumb ligaments last year) and his arm was never great to begin with.

The Jets team isn't good enough yet that losing QB1 is worth trading any assets for a stopgap who may or may not be better than what's already on the roster. If Wilson went down for the whole year, it would have been better to just bottom out with Flacco

    The rivalry is back on

Its moot because it sounds like Wilson is okish, and idk what Garoppolo costs, but if it’s in the ballpark of what Baker went for, you absolutely do that as the Jets, as being less bad at QB is better than being more bad. Putting your passing offense in the best position to develop guys like Elijah Moore and Garrett Wilson seems like a better team building strategy as a team that (hopefully) isn’t about to purge the roster and start over than being worse so that you get the 3 pick instead of the 7 pick and intentionally taking a lost year

Personally I just want to see them bypass Flacco and give us another dose of the Mike White experience and maybe he’s actually good

Current state Jimmy G is not helping develop any of the WRs on this roster lol let’s be real (and I’d argue any former state Jimmy G as well. Deebo didn’t break out for the 49ers until they started lining him up more in the backfield)

If there was a CLEAR CUT upgrade between him and Flacco then sure make the trade but there isn’t and that’s my point

I am just the resident Jimmy G hater. He’s the new Alex Smith. If the team and staff around him is really good and proven, then they’re not bad QBs to have, but you can’t ever rely on them alone to win you a game

I think that’s even an insult to Alex Smith haha. Jimmy G was a liability for SF in big games.

Deebo killed it as a rookie in 2019 and was killing it early last year when he was used a traditional WR. What Niners games were you watching?

Brandon Aiyuk has also been good when not in Kyle Shanahan’s dog house, and obviously George Kittle has been one of the absolute best TEs in the league.

Jimmy might not help put up the stats you want to see from the top guys, but the structure of the offensive scheme plays a large role in that too. Jimmy isn’t a good QB, but he’s not dogshit either. He can help maintain some semblance of a passing game.

For the record, Deebo went 49/882/4 in the first eight weeks of the season before he started getting 5-8 carries per game from then on out. For the rest of the regular season, Deebo went 28/523/2 as a receiver.

His receiving stats last season alone? 77/1405/6

Jimmy G is just good enough to be a completely pointless QB for a QB needy team. Put him on a team with an elite offense, defense, and coaching staff and yeah he'll mostly get you where you need to go. But what's he gonna do to either New York team? Or Seattle .

Yes, I do largely agree with this. I think the only pro-Jimmy argument would be to help your team still compete and not just make it blatantly obvious to the organization that you’re tanking and trying again next year, which I think is a bigger deal than it’s made out to be. It’s so easy as fans to say “Just tank for a pick,” but you really do run the risk of dismantling whatever culture you had been building.

Obviously, it’s moot because Wilson is going to be okay, but that’s the only argument I think holds any water for why a bad team would want to trade for Jimmy. A team ready to contend now, like the Browns (unfortunately), obviously makes the most sense to trade for Jimmy.

We can agree to disagree the extent of Jimmy’s value to Deebo, Aiyuk, and Kittle, but the bold part in Elf’s post, thats the entire point I’m making!! In the context of the 2022 NY Jets, Jimmy does absolutely nothing that Flacco can’t do, and you don’t have to give up assets or take on his contract

I only posted the meme as a joke. I didn’t actually think the Jets should trade for Jimmy, don’t worry
