It’s for sure tough to break free of a seasonal commitment to something you’ve been emotionally invested in for your whole life. That said, I was shocked at how quickly I got used to just doing something else with my Sundays. I was not shocked by how much my partner loved it. I read more books and write more music and do more outside with the extra 20 Sundays per year that I no longer spend on the couch.

Leaving all my fantasy football leagues before 2019 helped a ton, though I still do fantasy NBA to scratch that itch. Quickly got to the point where I was only watching Saints games for the end of Brees but not experiencing the mood swings of Being A Fan. Maybe a primetime game with a good matchup here and there. Eventually tuned out almost entirely toward the end of the regular season besides checking scores on my phone on Sunday nights out of boredom. Tuned out almost entirely in 2020. By 2021 I probably couldn’t name 8 players on the team I had, up until a year prior, watched almost every single game of for decades.

If I see a box score on my phone that seems like a particularly exciting game, I’ll throw it on if I’m home alone. I’ll watch a game if it’s on at a bar. I’ll go to Super Bowl parties. But the enjoyment I held for so long even for the worst games is gone, as is the pit in my stomach each time the league proved over and over what a horrific product it is to support. Don’t miss any of it, really.

Pro Tip: have your team sign Jameis Winston, it makes the transition incredibly smooth.

Watch the NFL go on strike because the NFLPA is hellbent on defending a literal sexual predator.

I’m not a rocket scientist, but when you get accused of things like Watson did by more than a dozen people and proceed to pay them off I’m pretty sure you’re guilty ! Why else would he be paying off these women ?! You don’t do that unless you are fucking guilty. The players association and the league are so fucking incompetent.

Like fuck this fucking shit, you get in more trouble for smoking a plant that is pretty much legal but not for forcing women into sexual acts.

Couldn’t agree more. They’re a front facing business and they just jump through so many hoops to come to the wrong conclusion when the right answer is so obvious.

    Steelers Training Camp Report

So at work we took a group of 10 kids at attend our youth programs to training camp. The Steelers gave us food, a private tent, and field access during practice. Which is pretty sweet. Unfortunately, the kids were more interested in the camp “experience”, so I spent most of my time standing near the activities for the kids where they caught balls from jugs machines and kicked field goals.

From what I saw at practice, we were closest to the QBs and WRs. Diontae and Claypool did not participate in the team drills we saw.

Trubisky was pretty disappointing. He had some bad overthrows and just didn’t connect with the WRs. Rudolph and Pickett seemed about even to me.

In regards to how cool the players we met were, Chris Wormley was super cool. Definitely my favorite we met today. Just a down to earth charismatic guy. Henry Montaneaux was cool, and George Pickens was also really nice and cool with the kids. Connor Heyward game one kid his gloves, so he gets props in my book.

Really no reason for them to go to the bat like this either...as the tweet above points out, this is the EXACT process they negotiated.

Also, its worth pointing out that in blurrier circumstances (commissioners exempt list pre-NFL domestic violence policy), all those people also lost their cases save for Ray Rice, who won solely because they tried to punish him twice.

No world where Watson wins in court, and Goodell should make it 12 games + threaten a commissioners exempt list spot if Watson takes it to court.

I feel like Goodell agreed to a system with the NFLPA where he gets to read the tea leaves and then decide based on public opinion and as weasely as that is I’m starting to have faith it’s going to work out great here.

Coming back to this, I figured the process would be some 10-page nightmare...its like 300 words spread over maybe 2/3rds of a page total in the CBA...and that includes ALL commissioner related discipline, not just DV/sexual assault stuff. And even then, half of that is basically the rules of hiring/firing the role Sue Robinson is in.

There's literally no other mechanism for the NFLPA to do anything because the process is laid out 100% for Goodell to say "nah, we're going with X," and all he needs is to release a memo that says why.

That said, I'm honestly expecting Goodell to fold somehow cause he's always been a joke

Also, count me in for the ideal outcome, which is Goodell hits him with a full year + conditions, Watson goes to court, he plays 2022 and the Browns still go like, 7-10, and then its upheld and he loses out on $45mil in 2023...and his lack of repentance means he never plays another game
