I think knowing what your arm can and can’t do and where you can and can’t reliably fit the ball is part of decision making - which means decision making fluctuates depending on how self aware you are of your skillset. Like if Minshew played like Mahomes that would be bad decision making because he should know his arm can’t do that - and accordingly, his game is set up to throw with very early anticipation so the ball gets there before the defender. So Minshew is a good decision maker in a different way because he knows his limits and how to change his game to compensate for them.

But Mahomes doesn’t have the same limitations to what is or isn’t a good decision, a bad read for some QBs can be a higher percentage read for him and there’s nothing wrong with him knowing that.

It’s not just throwing to wide open guys. I’d rather have a QB who takes educated risks than a QB that doesn’t take any, and pitifully loses any game that his defense or running game can’t give him a lead

Like, guys like Tannehill take the easy way out too often and play a lot worse when they have to play from behind

Mahomes and Josh Allen are great decision makers even in those scenarios when nobody’s open and they need a first down. It might look like they’re taking bad risks but a lot of times those are plays that aren’t even possible to convert into completions for most QBs, and Mahomes / Allen have the skills and the precise judgment to pull it off.

I wouldn’t call that getting lucky because of your athleticism, those risky throws between defenders are usually very intentional and I would call that knowing what you’re capable of and rising to the challenge. Even if it does occasionally lead to defenders making a great play… the fact is Mahomes is really hard to stop cause he has the judgment to know when he can take a risk, and he is in tune with his arm talent enough to consistently nail those plays way more often than he doesn’t. Defenders usually have to play chess and make a *really* intelligent or athletic play themselves to actually make him pay.

  16. Is it symbolic that this trade was announced at the exact time a 2-hour car chase in Charlotte ended in a crash?

That’s gonna be a great trivia question down the road - which former #1 pick was traded before the start of his 5th year for a conditional 5th round pick?

I think I'm the only Bengals fan glad that Baker is gone. Guy owned us in head-to-head games even after Burrow.

  22. Baker walking into a great situation despite what you'll see on twitter. The OL has been vastly improved. CMC, Foreman, Hubbard is a nice group of RBs. DJ Moore is dope. And the defense is going to be very strong.
