The Athletic's Colts writer Zak Keefer has a narrative podcast about Andrew Luck coming out next month, which sounds awesome.

I’m not familiar with the concept of the nfl having an “independent disciplinary officer”?

I’m pretty sure they can just do what they want no matter what the officer says unless they say no discipline at all

It's one of the dumbest things the NFLPA has ever done. They traded for it during the last CBA discussion because stars like Brady hated Goodell having the power.

    The rivalry is back on

I’d like to see Watson get banished, which is what I think is the main point of what you’re saying, but I don’t like the comparison I’ve seen to the Ridley suspension because they’re bad in different ways

The NFL has billions of dollars riding on the premise that their games aren’t fixed and a game fixing scandal would body them. From what came out, Ridley’s gambling seemed pretty innocent, but IMO it’s completely justifiable that the NFL has a zero tolerance policy/would make an example of him versus creating precedent for a loophole for something more severe

meanwhile, Watson’s is more criminal in nature, and in a healthy society, the main party put in charge of punishment of the abuser wouldn’t be the abuser’s employer’s governing body to where this wouldn’t and shouldn’t be a question of what is the NFL going to do, but here we are

is it the same for you? Prestigious

"The recommendation of an indefinite suspension of at least a year gives the NFL wiggle room to make the punishment longer if more incriminating evidence comes to light either during any of the four ongoing civil suits against Watson, or elsewhere. The NFL also will recommend certain terms that Watson would have to meet to make his reinstatement possible, the person said, confirming a Wall Street Journal report on the league’s plans."

ESPN has a first round mock draft for next year already and have the Jets picking #1. Mocks really do not ever stop huh.

Based on how that writer has the draft going, he has the Bills beating the Packers in the Super Bowl.

Dallas losing to GB in the NFCCG
Chargers losing to Buffalo in the AFCCG

    hmm.

I’m sure they will make the playoffs and have home field advantage then lose to the eagles like 28-6 or some shit with Rodgers throwing 200 yards 1 TD/3 INTS

They basically now have an independent arbitrator to make the initial choice; and the appeal either goes to Goodell, or if he chooses, to another independent person.

But as is the case with most "independent" arbitrators, they only get the paying gig if they side with the person paying them, so I'd suspect she'll decide about what the NFL wants.

And then we get to see how bad Roger Goodell still is at his job if a system designed entirely to give him control of these situations goes down in court again

Yeah, not like he owes them anything and I’m sure there will be opportunity elsewhere if they happen to cut ties from him.
