Solid and even though they’re on his side they’re still overlooking some things.

    1) Dan Patrick said “I don’t know if Fred has a defining run”…. How about the record for longest run in the playoffs? 90 yards against the Dolphins in 1999. That record still stands.

In fact, Fred’s big play ability was so rare that he had at least one 60+ yard run or reception EVERY TIME he appeared in at least 8 games (-thats 10 seasons that he has gone half a football field at least once). Stat digging through year by year game logs, I found that Fred has had:

    -TEN 70+ yard plays,
    -FIFTEEN 60+ yard plays,
    -29 40+ yard plays
-finished top 10 in 20+ yard runs six times:

    1998 (tied 4th)
    2000 (tied 1st)
    2002 (tied 9th)
    2003 (7th)
    2004 (6th)
    2007 (tied 7th)
**and he was 15th in 2006

That is not a stat that is common to be so consistent about. Every speed back catches lightning in a bottle behind good blocking but very few did it as often as Fred. When you consider he got hurt and missed at least 1/3 of the season in 99, 01, and 05, and split with MJD in 2006/2007… he literally was constantly elite at big plays when heathy, even into age 30/31 (he had FOUR 50+ yard runs at age 31). If Taylor doesn’t have a “defining run”… it’s because he has too many ridiculous highlights, not too few.

    2) both of them acknowledged that the offense actually revolved more around Brunell and Fred had a glass ceiling of touches holding him back from truly elite peaks… but they both forgot about Jimmy Smith lol.

How do you mention McCardell before Smith, who (like Taylor) is still top 25 all time at his position 15 years after retirement? But that’s not an isolated thing - when you search Jimmy Smith on Google it pulls up the fucking Ravens CB instead of the 25th leading receiver of all time?? So I think part of Fred’s legacy getting dismissed is people don’t even remember how productive the Jags passing offense was for the era. We didn’t need to win games by running the ball - Fred wasn’t the only top 20 player at his position of all time on our offense lol. Fred went from sharing the offense with Jimmy to sharing the offense with MJD and that was his whole career.

That Taylor run is fun but go watch it again there’s one Dolphin dude who just face plants on his own and it’s hysterical lol

Hahahaha I just watched, I see what you mean. And honestly it wasn’t Fred’s most impressive play that day. There’s another where he catches a swing pass and jukes 3-4 dudes out of their shoes straight up and scores another touchdown.

play is shown at 2:33 in this ESPN recap of the game

honestly, respect. Hated it at the time. But if the 2017 Jags defense had a weak spot, it’s that we had a lot of smaller finesse guys and Henry exploited the shit out of it.

4 stiff arms in one play. Ruthless. I never wanted to give him credit but then I went to Nashville in 2019 and watched him do it to us again live. And at that point I finally was like “alright Henry is one of the best power backs of all time” haha

    And even hotter tomorrow!

And then I look at Austin, TX and see it’s gonna be around 100-105 all week and it was close to that most of last week and I just assume that’s how it always is there in the summer and think, “who the fuck would want to live there?” and then remember Midwest winters and realize they say the same thing lol

Texas is hit by global warming too for sure (obviously) and as much as it’s normal to be hot here it’s NOT normal to be THAT hot here nonstop

    Until now I guess
