I didn’t know the details about the victim being unarmed. The most id researched is that he went to a party and came out with a bloody suit

 

Im not gonna speak further on something I only know very little about, all I’m gonna say is if someone came at me (or my future family) and I felt legit threatened I’d do whatever I had to do to protect myself/them. I ain’t dying just cause some douche wants me to.

 

Me too I’d probably run. But he was with a group of people I doubt they felt very threatened especially considering the result.

he’s good, he’s just a bit of a compiler, which is funny given the Fragile Fred nickname. Which is fine! Just I don’t think he was ever among the 3 or so best active RBs at any point during his career (as supported by the accolades), nor does he have a particularly robust playoff resume, which makes him very borderline HOF to me and not quite “the second best non-HOF RB”

 

Yeah AP is the only one. And imo Lynch the only one that comes close.

Priest Holmes and LeSean McCoy are in the ballpark I GUESS. I think the fact that Fred tore his entire groin off the bone, and split some of his prime years with MJD, and STILL finished better should illustrate that Taylor is a class above.. but I can’t *expect* any non Jags fan who has only seen limited Taylor footage to agree

 

All those guys played on superbowl teams that were good for a good chunk of their careers though. Jags drafted Taylor in 98… he missed most of 99…. By 2000 they were awful. And they were always a smaller market team. I don’t think it’s crazy to suggest Taylor should’ve went to the Pro Bowl as much as McCoy did / wouldve if they were in the same era. McCoy was up against much less competition - he was one of the top rushers of the 2010s even though he finished with less yards than Taylor

 

I also think for at least 2-3 years in the late 90s / 00s he was definitely a top 3 back, dqm lol

maybe not by stats but on talent? All I’m gonna say is there are a lot of NFL defenders who would back me up on that opinion

 

My hot take: Fred Taylor shouldn't be in the hall and that goes for at least 33% of the people who are in.

But somehow I continue to justify Matthew Slater for the hall. I will not be taking questions on this topic at this time thank yew

 

I respect that. What I don’t like is people acting like that 33% is better than Fred and deserves it. But the other 67% has a fair argument to be above Fred. All I’m seeking is acknowledgement the HOF is full of double standards and guys worse than Fred got in

 

People spending too much time shitting on Fred when we should REALLY just be shitting on MJD

 

This is all just a bit. I don't really care lol. You could argue that Taylor is statistically better than Bettis. I think Taylors TD numbers hurt him but I don't have the context to understand why they are so low other than Randall pointing to MJD.

Nothing against MJD as a player. He’s an awful analyst lol but he was great skillset wise. I think both MJD and Taylor kinda robbed some of each other’s legacy. They would’ve both been elite backs in the mid 2000s if they were on separate teams

 

Fred would’ve had a late career peak like Barber did if MJD wasn’t on the team. At least 35-40% of Fred’s best highlights are from 2005-2007 when he was 28-30. I legit think he had enough juice to have an 1800 yard 10-12 TD season if he was the primary back on a team without MJD. We ran for almost 2500 yards between the two of them in 2006, that coulda been mostly Taylor

 

tbh I think the NFL does it the best. It’s not like MLB where it’s insufferable gatekeeping, and it’s not like NBA where you get in after 10 seasons of having a pulse

I lean Big Hall to Small Hall — it doesn’t hurt anyone to acknowledge more players’ accomplishments, and I don’t think they do Big Hall so egregiously that it bothers me

 

Pro bowl is mostly a popularity contest but also Taylor played in the AFC in the early 2000s. It's like criticizing an AFC QB rn for missing the pro bowl.

 

I’m fine with the 0 pro bowls. It helps illustrate the point. Everyone who has even watched a highlight video or remembers one Taylor game at least agrees he should’ve went to a pro bowl.

 

idk, Mac Jones was a Pro Bowler this year. Fred Taylor has the same number of Pro Bowl appearances as Mac Jones

more seriously, I don’t think Pro Bowls = career success per se, but only making 1 over your entire career at a skill position is a big red flag that I am happy to be proven wrong on with other examples of HOF caliber players with a similar problem

As much as I desperately want to find one reason to say Taylor is better than James, all I got is “WELL HE HAD PEYTON” lol so I do have to admit that’s just bias on my part

(not ready to give up on Taylor > Dillon though, sorry @EntryLevelDave)

 

I also gotta put Marshall Faulk over Taylor too. He was shifty as hell too and then receiving ability wise, he was Alvin Kamara. Manning and Warner aside, he actually helped make those QBs into stars early in their careers.
