For what it’s worth, Ray Lewis played with a lot of guys you guys are putting above Fred. And Ray’s gone on record saying Fred was the best he ever faced.

he also has the most rushing yards at Heinz field (234) more than any Steelers runningback… and also has the second most by an opponent (147 yards in the 2007 playoffs). That’s more for @spiffa0 than it is an objective point - but it’s also saying something that one of the most infamous defenses of the 90s and 2000s and arguably the best linebacker of all time couldn’t stop him

Hot take: it might have been self defense.

I could get into it but the long story short is, we can’t talk about how football is a pathway for poor black kids to stay out of trouble, without acknowledging sometimes gang violence follows you when you earn money and get out of the hood. Shit, even if you weren’t even in a gang you could still be a target later in life. It might not even be Ray, could be a family member, could be a dude he was friends with in high school who is now jealous, etc. the Kendrick Lamar song “institutionalized” explains this concept well

For running backs, I think peak is more important than longevity since their careers are typically real short to begin with

I gave a good response that mostly sided with you and gave reasons for the couple points where I disagree :)

For that same reason I have no opinion on Marvin Harrison shooting somebody. It legit 100% might have been him defending himself. It happened in the hood of Philadelphia. Dudes get robbed, killed etc in broad daylight there, and everyone in the neighborhood probably knew who Marvin was and that he made millions.

I also think we should measure peaks differently. Like scoring a lot of touchdowns doesn’t mean as much to a RB as it does to a WR. You don’t have to get open to score. Goal line TDs are literally more OL than they are RB

I think yards per carry and number of explosive runs are better metrics to measure how much RB were able to dupe defenders by themselves… they have less to do with when you ran the ball / game plan, and everything to do with being creative and innovative with vision and elusiveness. and by those metrics Fred is top 10

There are 4 runningbacks who have had at least 6 1200+ yard seasons, but still had over 4.5 YPC (indicating their coaches didnt just mindlessly flood them with volume.)

    Adrian Peterson
    Jim Brown
    Barry Sanders
    Fred Taylor

cherry picking I know… but it makes a statement regardless, because that stat filter kinda weeds out 1) guys who were short lived, 2) guys who played on teams that force fed them 30 carries a game, 3) guys who were on really good teams for a little while

I can't imagine there are 100 bigger Jags fans on Earth than Randall if I am being honest, and I respect it

tbh I think you underestimate how crazy people are

there are people out there who organize people to dress up like clowns and actually attend football games like that because they don’t like the GM

to be fair, that could literally just be the top 50 Jags fans doing that lol

I wouldn’t be surprised if I was top 100 but also wouldn’t be surprised at all if I wasn’t even close

like, I consider myself a huge Dolphins fan obviously. But I KNOW there are much bigger Fins fans than me just because the team has been around for like 55-60 years.

the Jags are a relatively new team still all things considered. So its not like old people grew up watching the JAgs since they didnt exist 25 years ago or whatever it was

I’m the perfect age to be a die hard jags fan though, think about it

they became a team exactly when I started forming memories, and then my family had season tickets when they went to the playoffs multiple times in the 90s.

And then when my dad moved us out of Jax, (when I really didn’t want to leave cause it was my home, and I was just starting to finally be popular in school)… that only made me double down on watching the Jags. Cause that team was the only thing that put Jacksonville on the map / on TV nationally.

Tbh it surprises me more that Matt is even a Jags fan. He could’ve been Bucs all the way and never even started rooting for the Jags lol. But RESPECT for dropping the Bucs when they drafted Winston (and for that matter, dropping LSU, a team he liked even more than the Jags, when the stuff about Ed O came out)

Defending Ray Lewis as self defense when the victims were stabbed and there was no evidence that the victims had a weapon. Maybe you could argue it was a fight that went too far but when the too far is stabbing unarmed people to death there should probably be some consequences. And considering Ray Lewis has said he doesn’t have regrets because it was God’s plan I don’t think I’ll be giving him the benefit of the doubt.
